I am trying to add a URL to the button setting to link to (an external link).  I continue to get an error saying the URL is invalid.  I put the link in a browser and the link works.  Are there restrictions for the URL?   it is an .shtml page -  does that matter?   it has ( and ) in the URL - does that matter?

Please elaborate on the problem you are having. I have checked your account and noticed that you have a few sites. Which site are you referring to? What are the steps you have taken in order to resolve this issue?

Also, please send us the entire URL (that you have been trying to add) for further assistance.

      Awaiting your reply,

      Thanks, Rony Customer Solutions

      Site:  Global View Productions

      Page:  News

Link:  Read More button -  I am trying to add the following URL:  http://www.searchmytrash.com/articles/annetteduffy(3-14).shtml

The box turn red and says the URL is invalid but when I cut and paste this into my browser it works fine.

This may be due to the .shtml extension of the page.

Please try shortening the link using bit.ly and attaching the shortened link.

I am trying to get a button to act like a drop down menu, is this possible? I would like the button to be able to link to more than one page and give viewers the option to choose which page to go to, like a drop down menu.

    Thank you!

Unfortunately this isn't possible at the moment.

We document and learn from every feature request brought to our attention. These objectives are immediately high priority milestones in Wix's product road map.

Feel free to add your feature request to our Wish List by posting here.

You can keep up to date with what features are coming soon here.

In the meantime, you can add various buttons and link to different pages.

My suggestion to you, since you want it to look like a menu, is to make all the buttons the same format (size, text, shape, color, etc.) and put them all together - to form a menu.

In order to do so, add a button (add --> buttons & menus --> button), customize it, and then while the button is clicked, click CTRL+C CTRL+Z in the keyboard.

Keep doing so until you have the amount of buttons needed.

Arrange them in a form of a menu, and link them to wherever you want (click on a button --> link to --> page\web address).

      Thanks, Customer Solutions

Is it possible to add a button in the footer?

In order to add a button to your footer, please add a button to a page, check the "Show on all pages" option in the button settings menu and then just drag it to the footer area:

    Hi there,

A while back I added a "cart" button when I was trying to build a shop. Now the cart button seems to be on each page underneath images and I cannot remove it. I try to click on it and it does not highlight. Here's a screen shot of what I'm talking about (see Twitter button). Can you tell me how to remove it??!

      Hey  krizieot,

This might be happening because the element is sitting behind other elements. To access the element, click the element, then click the Bring forward icon from the pop-up until the element is on top of all of the other elements. You should then be able to move, edit or delete the element.

Alternately, if you cannot click the element, click on the element that is on top of the element you are trying to access and click the  Send backward icon to send that element behind the element that you are trying to access.

Note that if you have an element in your header and uncheck "Show on all pages", the element might be moved behind the header causing it to appear inaccessible. To access the element, move the header backwards as described above or use Ctrl + M to toggle through the elements on your page until the element is selected.

Changing the menu on a sub page

I am wanting to have a different menu on my subpages that is not a drop down menu but rather buttons in the format of my original page but with the names of the pages in that particular sub group replacing the names of the initial pages. How can I do this with wix???

    • Galina Wix Team

Replied by Galina March 12, 2014

You can add buttons to your subpage and link them to the pages of your site.

1 From the Add list, click Buttons & Menus. Click one of the button options.

      2. From the Button Settings window, under Button Text, type a name for your button.
      3. Under Link to, click the field.
      4. From the Link Settings window that opens, click your Link type: Page
      6. From the Link Settings window, click Done.
      7. Click outside of the button to close the Button Settings window.
      Best regards, WIX Team.

Can a button be linked to another button?  On my site, there are 3 buttons.  One selects a right or left hand orientation the next 2 are a choice of a standard fit or custom fit.  I would like to link the custom fit to another button that allows the customer to input measurements.

    Can this be done?

I am not entirely sure what you mean, but I don't think so, Buttons can only be linked to pages, URLs, e-mails and document.

Recently pages that you mark as invisible (not to show up on menu) cannot be linked with a button.

I have few pages that I have made invisible from the menu. In the past I could link a button to those pages but now pages marked invisible does not show up on the drop-box of pages.

    See the image attached.

I hope Wix.com fixes this issue.

      Hi khyberhimmat,

Thank you for contacting us. Please note that I was unable to re-create your issue above.

As seen in the screenshot I've attached below, all hidden pages also appear as available links. You may have to scroll up or down the pages in the link to page pop-up in order to locate them in the drop down menu.

Using my editor I was able to verify that hidden pages could still work correctly as links from buttons such as you are trying to link.

If you are still experiencing issues or have any further questions we may assist you with please let us know.

      All the best, Ellie

I am working on a rather large website. It hasn't been a problem because I've kept things in order and categories. Duplicated names used to follow one another (Name - Name Lastname Gal), and were listed under their category (IN MAYUS). Much to my surprise, when I open today the pages list to add another link, as I've been doing for the past week, I find my page list completely in disorder . It's not going to be practical to work like this, since the number of pages is going to be at least the double. What can be done to fix this back?

This is relevant to this topic because the only place where this has happened is when linking pages from buttons.

We'd like to take a closer look but need to make sure we understand the issue at hand -  you please elaborate further on - what usually happens when you try to link a page? By which order do the pages appear? How did you expect it to behave?

The linking system works fine. The thing is, when I open the list of pages in the <link to page> section, the names appear in disorder. This had not happened before. Before yesterday, the names appeared in the same order as they are in the page index: subpages under pages, in the order of creation. I attach a screenshot of a sample of the expected order. Here, names appear under each MAYUS page, and each name appears twice. In the first screenshot, MAYUS dividers went to the bottom of the list, and duplicated names no longer follow each other.

Hi, thanks for your reply... But my problem is that I do not HAVE a 'Buttons & Menus' option.  I have 'Text', 'Image', 'Gallery', 'Media'.

I cannot add a new button menu as I do not have it an an available function...

Please see attached photo which basically shows you what I see when I go into the 'Add' menu.

When I add a button and change the style it fails to save the changed version and defaults to the standard plain style. The link works but changing the style does not! Please can you advise me what to do or has this happened before and cannot be resolved.
