Great news, it is now possible to add anchors to your Wix site! An anchor is a position marker which allows you to link to a specific location on any of the pages of your site. Click here for a demo!

To add an anchor: From the left side of the Editor, click the Add icon > click Buttons & Menus > click Anchor.

Click the Anchor to select it > from the pop-up menu, click Settings > under Anchor Name, enter a name for your anchor > drag the anchor to the relevant location on your page.

Now you can link an element (image, button or text) to the anchor so that when the element is clicked, you are taken directly to the position on the page.

Can I make a fixed position button that will link to top of page?

Can I make a fixed position button that will link to top of page?

I have a long menu, and I would like a fixed position button that the user can click at anytime to get back to the top.  Instead of the user having to search for the button, I would like it to scroll with the page.  Is this possible?

      Hi mattcave,

      Thank you for contacting Wix.

Currently it is not possible to add a "flowing" button your site. However, you can add an anchor to the top of the page and link it to a button.

For instructions, please refer to the Best Reply at the top of this page.

For those of you who are asking about making a menu link to an anchor...

    1. Create the anchor where you want it to appear on the page (I recommend using anchor settings to rename your anchor to a word that describes its location on the page - i.e., Benefits)

    2. Go to the menu at the top of the page and find the menu item that goes with the link (i.e., Benefits).

    3. Highlight the word or phrase on the menu (must be in edit mode for that text box where your menu appears) and on the edit toolbar select the link icon.

    4. From your link icon choices, select anchor. The anchor option will default to the page you are on. A second drop down option will be available to select from the anchors on that page (reason for naming the anchors, rather than using the numbering default). Select the anchor you want, which will make the menu word you highlighted (i.e., Benefits) a hyperlink to that point on your page where the associated anchor is located.

I did this for a long page where I listed all of the staff and leadership at our church at the top of the page, by category. I then created an anchor for each person, placing the anchors just above each person's name and renaming the anchors by that person's first name and last initial (we have 2 Bobs). I then created when to the menu of names, highlighted each name and created a link to the associated anchor for that person on the page.

You can also create hyperlinks from a word on one page and from the edit toolbar, select link and pick the option to link to another page or anchor on a page.

Hope this helps some of you... good luck!

If you are creating a long page that includes a menu at the top with hyperlinked text to an anchor on the page, don't forget to also include hyperlinked text after sections of text on the long page that return your viewer back to the top of the page.

If you are going to make it easy for your viewers to go to sections of text on a long page, make it easy for them to return to the menu or top of the page.

      Good Luck!

Will someone from Wix please respond to my question that started this thread. I want to know...

Will the anchors that are visible on my mobile view while editing it, be visible to viewers once I publish?

I want the anchor to be active on a mobile device, but I don't want it to be physically visible (the blue anchor line and tab).

In response to the 'Ranalee' and 'Yotam' (Wix Team) Thread.

I also am trying to link an Anchor Point to my Menu Bar (as Ranalee thoroughly explained).

If it cant be done in Wix. How did you do this on the Wix website (link below)? This is exactly what me and Ranalee are trying to achieve??

Ironically ...... its a 'Showcase' for the Anchor function ...... ? I assume this was designed outside of Wix .... not the best advertisement I feel? DOH!

    Thanks in advance

      Hi ray9859,

      Thanks for reaching out.

I have visited the link you have supplied. This was made using a series of anchors and buttons which are linked to them. Users begin the top of the page, as when clickng a menu button to a page and may click on a button which is present there. This button is linked to an anchor below and so on.

Any user can use this technique in their site.

Please note that this is different from creating a link from a menu button to an anchor (the buttons in the example you provided are buttons and are not part of a menu).

I hope this information proves useful to you.

We are here should you require any further assistance.

      Thanks, Sheer - Wix team

    mobile anchors

I have anchors inserted on several pages of my desktop view. I see them and want them on my mobile view and have moved them to the proper location on my mobile view.

My question is... Will my customers see the anchors on my mobile view once I publish my site? I am assuming that I am only seeing them now, because I am editing my mobile view, right?

Once I get my answer to this question and one additional piece of content, I will publish my site. Anticipating publishing tomorrow (7/29/14).

    Thank you!

Thank you for contacting Wix Support regarding this issue.

The anchors will not be visible on your site's mobile view, or on the desktop view, once it is published. As noted in the best reply above, the anchor is just a position marker that creates a "position" to which you can link other elements (e.g. text, buttons, images, etc.) on your site.

Please let us know should you require any further assistance.

There is no real way to link to an image, but you can use an anchor instead. Just place the anchor at the place where the image you want to link to is, then go back to the page with the image you would like to link from, and set the anchor link onto the image.

Hi, do you know how to link an image from a slideshow gallery, to a picture on another page on the same site?

    • Jonathan Wix Team

Replied by Jonathan July 29, 2014

Images, be they on a gallery or not cannot be linked to an image, they can link to a page, an exterior url or an anchor. You can add an anchor and set it to the height of an image, create the anchor first and then have the first image link to that anchor. Practically it will seem to link to the 2nd image you wanted to link to.

I was able to get to the anchor I believe you're referring to by clicking on the "GO!" button in your home page.

If you can't do this on your end, please clear your browser's cache and try again. You can find step by step instructions here.

Please let us know in case you need further assistance.

I don't think there is any way to get a menu bar to link to an anchor, but you could just make a fake menu with buttons, and boxes . . . and make the buttons link to the anchor. This will keep you from making sub pages though.
