Great news, it is now possible to add anchors to your Wix site! An anchor is a position marker which allows you to link to a specific location on any of the pages of your site.

Here is how you can find the anchors feature:

You can find step by step instructions here or watch the video below:

We would also like to thank you for your patience and for your great suggestions regarding this feature.

adding a back to the top button

Could you tell me how to add a " Go back to the Top" button which follows the user as they scroll down the page?  Wix uses it on some of your longer screens and I would find it very useful.

    Many thanks

Hi Carlie, thanks for your help.  What I'd love to do is what the other user below has asked - which would be perfect...

1 - Is there a way I can make the "back to top" button stay on the page as in your WiX site, accessible while scrolling down the page? Mine is stuck at the bottom of the page and can only be seen once the end of page has been reached.

      Hi Paul,

In fact, you can achieve this by placing the "Back to Top" button in the Footer (select the button, select the "Show on all Pages" checkbox, then drag it to the footer), then selecting the Footer itself and checking the "Fixed Position" checkbox in its Settings.

Then go to Preview and see how it works :)

      Hope this helps,

Actually Leo, I've just been working with it and although it works, to a new user it hides all my listings and they may not know they can scroll down.  The absolute ideal would be to have the same function that you guys have on your site where the 'back to top' button floats down as you scroll,

If that's not possible, just tell me

Many thanks for your support and patience.

      Hi,

If you set your footer to "Fixed footer", and place a button linking to "Page Top" in the footer (set to all page must be ticked on)  - it'll show on the bottom of the page at all times, and regardless of which page you're on it'll jump to the top of the page.

      I hope that helped,

anchors not visible on live site

    Hi :-)
If "anchors aren't visible on live site" how can anyone click on them to get "back to top" ... as on your own site. I would like to do exactly what you have done i.e. create a little "back to top" sticker on the left of the page to. But I can't figure out HOW ... :-(  I followed your instructions but am still confused. Please assist. Thank you. Tina. email:  tinak2009 at gmail dot com

      Hi Tina,

Thank you for contacting us. I have merged your post to a thread about anchors.  The anchors are not visible on the site but the elements that link to the anchors are. To create a "back to top" button as we have on our site.

Please click from the left side of your menu add< Buttons & Menus< Button. Now, move the button to the bottom of the page and click on it and the click on settings. From the button settings window change the button name to "back to top". Now, click on the box under "Link to" and select the option of "page top". Now your button will link your site visitors to the top of the page.

Please watch the video in the best reply above to see how this is done.

      All the best, Ellie

      Hi Ellie
... thank you thank you thank you!! I love the way this works!

1 - Is there a way I can make the "back to top" button stay on the page as in your WiX site, accessible while scrolling down the page? Mine is stuck at the bottom of the page and can only be seen once the end of page has been reached.

2 - The function "show on all pages" does not work. I unticked and re-ticked the box a number of times ... :-(  Eventually I copied+pasted, but lost the "animation" during the process.

3 - The tick in the box "animate element on first loading only" is greyed out. I cannot change it.

      Blessings.

      Hi Tina,

Regarding the "Show on all pages" not working - can you please provide some details, as we don't know why this might be happening?

Regarding the Back to Top staying on the page - please try this:

Place the "Back to Top" button in the Footer (select the button, select the "Show on all Pages" checkbox, then drag it to the footer), then select the Footer itself and check the "Fixed Position" checkbox in its Settings.

      Hi Leo,
Thanks, but placing the "back to top" button in the footer etc ... is not the solution, because I don't want my footer to stay in a "fixed position". I want only the "back to top" button to stay in the fixed position, as does the one on the WiX site.
The "show on all pages" problem fixed itself when I re-loaded the page i.e. it can now be ticked. But it still doesn't show on all pages and the animation is still lost during copy-and-paste.
My query re the tick in the box "animate element on first loading only" has as yet not been responded to. It is now unticked, but still the animation works only on the first loading.
All in all these are not major issues. I am very happy with what I have achieved so far.
      Best Regards.

      Hello,

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to set elements that aren't located in the header or footer to be in a fixed position. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Regarding animation, could you please let us know where this element is located?

      Hi,

animation ... this is a "back to top" button which I have copied-and-pasted to the bottom left of my every page ...  "show on all pages" didn't function and "animate element on first loading only" in NOT ticked, but it still only shows on first loading.

fixed position ... this is possible on the WiX website (bakc to top button), why not on mine? Is this available only to paying clients?

      Hi,

Regarding the animation of the "back to top" button, I was unable to recreate the problem. The button was animated on each page separately, and when going back to a page I already visited, the button reloaded with the animation as well.

Are you experiencing this problem with a specific page?

While browsing on the web, your computer and browser stores various information. This build up of information can sometimes cause conflict. Please clear your browser's cache. You can find step by step instructions here.

Regarding the fixed position of a button, as Shai said, we currently do not offer such a feature. However, you can add the button to either the header or the footer, and make the header/footer stay in a fixed position.

Feel free to add your feature request to our Wish List by posting here.

Should you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

      Hello Ella and thank you.
Let me tell you what my problem is with WiX Support Team: Each time someone new answers to my correspondence. having no clue what I wrote before. There is absolutely no continuity the responses. You're about the 4th of 5th person I have rehash the whole story to ...
1 - I HAD to copy-and-paste the "back to top" button onto each page separately, because the "show on all pages" didn't work.
2 - Then I HAD to "add animation" to each "back to top" button on each page separately, because the animation of the first created button did not transfer onto the buttons on all the other pages.
3 - My repeated question about the fixed position of the button has not been answered: If this function is possible on the wix.com site but not on mine, is that because mine is a FREE wix website option? Yes or No.
4 - Re the fixed position of the button: this too has been discussed a few times: I don't WANT to add the button to the header or footer on my website, because I want neither my header nor my footer to stay in a fixed position.
5 - I do have one new query: I have not figured out how to link and/or unlink elements on a page. They seem to do this automatically. Yesterday I created a box inside my header and selected it to be black and behind the elements inside the header. Immediately this box attached itself to the white box on the page below the header and turned that box black also. I couldn't fix this problem. In the end I deleted the box in the header in order to keep the box on my page white.
      Regards.

      Oh, I forgot to mention:

6 - My query re "animate element on first loading only" also has not been responded to. I can tick and untick that box now, but it makes no difference whatsoever. The "back to top" button only animates on the first loading of the page.

      Rgrds.

      Hi,

Wix.com wasn't created using the editor, which is why we didn't understand your original query - it was programmed manually and doesn't have anything to do with the features in the editor. Of course, We document and learn from every feature request and bug brought to our attention.

Feel free to add your feature request to our Wish List by posting here.

Regarding why the "Show on all pages" didn't work, or seemed as if its not working - you've placed it inside a page, in a certain (x,y) location. It will then show on every page in the same (x,y) location - even though not all pages are of the same length. The solution would be to place it in the footer.

Regarding boxes - they don't change each other's properties - they simply act as containers, one box can contain elements (and other boxes) in it - this is served in HTML5 to make sure elements are aligned, once you drag an element over an attachable box (only boxes currently act this way) - it will have a notification showing on the top left "Attach to Box".

I couldn't replicate the issue you've described regarding the animation - if i un-checked the box and switched to another page, then came back to the previous page - the button would animate, if I checked it it didn't.

I hope this feature is clearer now. If you have any other questions let us know.

    Anchor button missing

    Hi there,

Recently you had an Anchor button where I could link something from one page to another but to a certain element on the second page.

Now it is no longer there? Why is this? is this a fault? It was very useful for the website I am creating and now means I have to change the entire layout of my site.
