If you have purchased a domain from Wix, it is possible to transfer it to another domain host, if necessary.

To transfer a Wix domain: Sign in to your Wix account > from the top menu, hover over Subscriptions > click Domains > click Manage next to the relevant domain.

Under Domain Summary, click the Advanced tab > on the right, click Transfer away from Wix > click Send.

An email code will be sent to your email address. This code should be forwarded to your new domain host.

Note: In accordance with ICANN rules, you will only be able to transfer your domain 60 days after purchasing it from Wix.

Note: If you were referring to a non-Wix Domain which you connected to your Wix site, you will need to contact your domain host for assistance with disconnecting your domain from Wix.

For further information on transferring your domain, click here or watch the video below!

    Hi,

I am trying to transfer a domain to another host, and I have followed all the steps, my new host support says the domain is "locked" by the previous host. Where is this "Locked" option? and how do I unlock it to transfer?

    thanks

Have you received the email with the transfer code?

Please note that the moment Wix provides you with the domain transfer code, you're free to move your domain wherever you'd like. This is the last step on the Wix side. From here on all other steps and delays are the responsibility of your new registrar.

Please contact your new registrar's support, give them the transfer code and let them know that Wix has approved the transfer (by supplying the transfer code). If they reply with a requirement for any further steps to be done on our end please forward us their email entirely by copying it and posting on this thread.

      Hi,

Yeah I have done all that, I still can't transfer. When I do a "whois" lookup i get this :

      Whois Server Version 2.0

Domain names in the .com and .net domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
      for detailed information.

      Domain Name: THEFIDELITYFILESFILM.COM
      Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.
      Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
      Referral URL: http://networksolutions.com
      Name Server: NS1.WIX.COM
      Name Server: NS2.WIX.COM
      Status: clientTransferProhibited
      Updated Date: 19-aug-2014
      Creation Date: 20-jun-2013
      Expiration Date: 20-jun-2015

can you see the bold text? that says "clientTransferProhibited"

That is why I wanted to know why the transfer is prohibited from your end.

      Thanks

    Hi,

How do I re-direct my domain away from wix, I can't see the option 'Transfer away from Wix' under Domain, I am not sure who the domain host is Wix or other and how I can re-direct this site to a non-wix site.

    Please advice.

    Thanks

      Hi,

Wix does not support the option of exporting files, created using Wix, to an external destination or host. All Wix creations must be hosted on Wix's servers. The advantages of using Wix as your host include improvements to your site's loading time, search engine optimization and more.

You can connect your Wix site to your own domain! For information about how to do this, click here.

Please don't hesitate to contact us again, if you will need additional assistance.

How can I change the name servers to point to another host? Can you do that for me?

Replied by Eileen August 13, 2014

      Hey easmith3

Please note that it is not possible to change the name servers of a domain name purchased from Wix. You may either transfer the domain away from Wix, or point the domain to a different IP address.

      * If you have purchased a Wix domain, but have decided to transfer it away from Wix, you can do so easily by following the instructions here.

Important note: In accordance with ICANN rules, you cannot transfer your domain to another provider until 60 days after you register or transfer your domain.

      * To point your domain to a different IP address, you will need to modify the domain's A records. You will need to contact your new host and request for the relevant IP address. For more information about how to edit your A records, click here.

    Hello,

I am currently in the process of transferring my domain from here to my webhost ixwebhosting.com. I checked with my web host and they informed me that the transfer is taking a longtime due to some things from your end.

I initiated the transfer about 5 days ago however the domain has not been moved yet. Can you please inform me if there is anything you need from me? I am trying to complete the transfer this week, which I think is reasonable as the week just began.

    Thanks in advance!

I am investigating hosting options at this point, and wanted to see what transfer options were available.  I have seen the video and many posts here and the video does not match up with options I have in my account.  When going to the manage domain->Advanced, there are only options on the right-hand side for connecting the domain to sites.  There is nothing about transfers.  What am I missing?

    • columbusyouthballet

I think I actually just figured this out.  I thought the domain was registered with you, but it looks like it was registered with someone else, and wix is hosting the DNS.  So that would explain why there are no options to transfer.

      Hi,

Great news! you are correct, when you are connected to Wix through the DNS you do not need to transfer your site away, but simply change the name servers.

My Domain has been "successfully transferred".. however it still exists and points to Wix, giving me the option to transfer. Its already been accepted by GoDaddy where I transferred to - but still directs me to wix.

Please assist... my website has been down for over a week now.

      Hi,

As you can see here the current registrar of your domain angelsbaby.org is indeed GoDaddy, which means that Wix now has no control over your domain. I can see that your domain is no longer connected to the Wix's servers, I assume that your domain's changes are still propagating and therefore you are still unable to view the changes correctly.

To get clearer information regarding your domain's status, please contact GoDaddy.

If you need any further assistance from Wix, please let us know.

      Hן  mdf105,

Thank you for contacting Wix support!

Please note that '@' and '*' are not valid host names and I was unable to add those A records.

The CNAME record you have requested to add already exists in the domain records.

Please provide us with valid host names for the A records and we will be happy to add them for you.

      Kind regards,
