A CNAME or canonical name record specifies that the domain name is an alias of another, canonical domain name. You can add or update your CNAME records from the Domains page of your Wix account.

To add or update a CNAME record: Sign in to your Wix account > from the top menu, hover over Subscriptions > click Domains > under My Domains, next to the relevant domain, click Manage.

Under Domain Summary, select the Advanced tab > next to DNS Records, click Manage > next to CNAME (Aliases), click Add a new CNAME record to add or click the pencil icon to edit > enter the information in the pop-up window > click Save.

Note: If your domain is connected to your Wix site via Pointing, your domain host is in control of your CNAME records.

    Hello Support,

I am trying to add CNAME records to my Wix account but I do not see the Advanced tab under Domain Summary. Am I doing something wrong?

      Hello savelovegive,

Thank you for contacting Wix support.

Please note that your domain is connected to your Wix site via Pointing, so your domain host is in control of you CNAME records. Please contact your domain host in order to change your CNAME records.

Feel free to contact us should you require any further assistance.

      Kind regards, Amit

Thanks Amit. That clicked in shortly after I submitted my post. My domains are hosted at GoDaddy.

The problem I am having is that I have other CNAME records that I would like to redirect to www.savelovegive.com but it is not working. The CNAME entries are redirecting to  http://www.vera.savelovegive.com/, and http://www.support.savelovegive.com.

What is the proper method for adding CNAME entries for domains not hosted by Wix?

Currently I have a WIX website and domain "itshergym.com" established and live. I also own an AU domain name (itshergym.com.au) that I wish to create a CNAME to point to the parent domain name "itshergym.com". So in theory I should be able to create a DNS CNAME i.e.

    www.itshergym.com.au cname www.itshergym.com.

I can't see an option within manage DNS for this option - any thoughts on how I could create this cname?

Hoping someone can help me too please!  I have a domain hosted by Netregistry and a Website hosted by WIX premium.  The Domain Name points to Wix with the Name Servers working well.  I contacted NetRegistry about creating subdomains (which I understand to be CNAMEs) and they said I should create them with Wix.  I have created said CNAMEs on my Wix site and added in the domain where I wish it to point (www.wandas.com.au) but it does not seem to work.  I have followed the instructions on your help page...

    Thank you!

      Dear Lara,

May ask to which subdomain are you referring to and to where you wish to connect the subdomain?

Subdomains are used to connect the same domain to resources on two different servers. For example, if you have a domain - www.domainexample.com - pointed to your Wix site, you may also want to create a subdomain - blog.yourdomain.com - which would point to where your blog is hosted.

To add a subdomain: Sign in to your Wix account > from the menu at the top, hover over Subscriptions > click Domains > click Use a Domain You Already Own > click Connect your domain to Wix but keep your current registrar.

Under Connecting your own domain, fill in the subdomain information, select the relevant site and select your registrar  > click Next.

Once you have added the subdomain to your account, you will need to add the following DNS records for the primary domain.

      A (Host) record for examplesubdomain.mydomain.com

      CNAME (Aliases) record www.examplesubdomain.mydomain.com

      CNAME (Aliases) record for m.examplesubdomain.mydomain.com

To add DNS records: Under My Domains, next to the relevant domain, click Manage.

Under Domain Summary, select the Advanced tab > next to DNS Records, click Manage > add or edit your records according to your requirements.

For detailed information on connecting a subdomain, click here.

Please note that if you refer to the domain under your account, it is connected using NS. Therefore the domain records are managed via the Domain manager in your Wix account. Please follow the instructions provided above.

Let us know if you have any questions.

My organization just opened up a new branch and I was wondering if I can link a page on my current Wix website, to the address <sitename>.<mydomain>.com ?

Can you please guide me regarding how I might go about this issue? do I create a Cname? if yes then can you please walk me through, how does Cname fetch different webpages based on the address?

    Thank you!

Thank  for replying. I already checked that link. It tells you what to do, but does not necessarily explain hoe the process works. The reason, I am asking about how this works is because I have been trying to connect a sub domain "takhti.let-ica.com" to a webserver hosted on a server in my office. Pointing it to IP, asks me to forward it to only one IP address, which I assume is the ip address of my office (provided by my ISP). I put in that IP and on my router I forwarded port 80 to the ip address of my server, but It is still not working.

Same for CNAME, I wanted to know how it works because I followwed the steps twice and it still doesnt seem to work.

I am afraid you can't link just a single page on your website to a different domain/subdomain.

Are you trying to achieve something else? if you do please elaborate so we can suggest the best option to get it done.

Thank you for the patience and cooperation.

Our Organization is expanding and we are trying to divide up the website according to the region. For example, we'd love to have a subdomain for our branches in different countries. For example, canada.lets-ica.com, kenya.lets-ica.com. uganda.lets-ica.com etc.

If connecting one page to the subdomain is not possible (which is what I have concluded after a thorough research), I would love to figure out alternate options. One that I have in mind is to host a website on my home server (using apache) and serve it on the port 80.

I am a little confused as to how can I connect that site to this subdomain. I'll be thankful if you can explain that. Also if you have any other suggestions, I'll really appreciate those.

Thank you for shedding more light on the matter, as you've already figured, you will need to create a few more individual sites ( according to the number of branches you have ).

Once you have another site you can use the domain you already have and connect it to these sites using subdomains.

The subdomains will be in the following format www.example.mydomain.com, for instruction to create subdomains and point them to your site you can use this link.

You can also create these sites with Wix, upgrade them and use subdomains.

If you need additional assistance with the process we'd love to help.

someone please help me!  I have my emails hosted with godaddy, domain and website with wix.  do not know how to change this setting.  tried several times and obviously I am doing it incorrectly!  I wish WIX had phone support!!!

mail.qst-consulting.com resolves to an incorrect IP: mail.qst-consulting.com. It should be a CNAME of pop.secureserver.net ( Accounts can still be setup but users will not be able to use mail.qst-consulting.com as their POP3 server address.

I don't know how to do this myself.  what goes where?  help!

Please note that each website might have it's own Cname configuration for custom sub domains to work. The Cname you've created is not properly configured to use with Blogger.

You can find information about creating a Cname record for your domain name here. If you have further questions please contact Blogger's support.
