If you have purchased your a domain name from another domain registrar, you can either transfer your domain to Wix or connect your domain to Wix’s name servers.

Note: Connecting your own domain is a premium feature.

To connect your domain to Wix's name servers: Sign in to your Wix account > from the top menu, hover over Subscriptions > click Domains. Click Use a Domain You Already Own > click Connect your domain to Wix but keep your current registrar.
Under Setup with Wix, enter your domain name and select the site that you want it connected to > click Next.
Under Setup with Registrar > choose your domain host from the list.

Now you will need to set up the connection with your domain registrar. For instructions for Various Domain Hosts, click one of the links below:

We have been unable to get our site live.  We do not have any dashboard login for our domain host (it was done through a third party) and although we have asked them to do the domain connection, and it appears to all be in order on the WIX dashboard, we are getting an error mesage:

    The connection has timed out

The server at www.tsimoray.org.uk is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

According to the WIX trouble shooter: The domain name you entered is not connected to Wix’s nameservers and is not pointing to Wix’s IP address.

Can you help?  We are a multi agency charitable organisation and our website is an essential part of our work.

Thank you for contacting Wix Support regarding this matter.

I have checked your domain records on our end and found that the pointing configuration in your registrar (not Wix, but your actual domain host) is incorrect. Wix hosts your website but your domain is from a third party. The domain stays at your domain hosting company and points to the Wix servers.

We recommend connecting your domain name using Wix’s name servers. When connecting a domain to your Wix site with our name servers, the domain stays at your hosting company and connects to the Wix servers NS1.WIX.COM and NS2.WIX.COM. This method transfers control of your domain records to Wix. These records can be controlled via Domain Manager of your Wix account by you! This will also allow your mobile site to be automatically associated with your domain!

In order to do so simply send your domain hosting company the following message: “I have built a site on Wix.com. Please connect my domain to their name servers- NS1.WIX.COM-IP address and NS2.WIX.COM-IP address”

After following these steps, please allow up to 72 hours for changes to get updated (propagate). If you are still having domain connection problems, try going through the troubleshooter again here.

Please let us know should you require any further assistance on our end.

Have a great day! Nitzan - Wix Support Team

I am unable to connect my domain name to Wix. The domain is with Uberglobal and when i got the the page where you choose which registrar your with I pressed Other Domain Host. So now WIx has recognised my domain name but it won't connect to Wix and i cant start the process again because Wix has already recognised the domain name. I was wondering how i can fix this?

      Hi bellavistacountryg,

Thank you for contacting Wix support.

I have checked your site and I can see that you have not published it yet, please publish your site in order for it to be live.

In addition, it seems that your pointing configuration in your registrar (not Wix, but your actual domain host) is incorrect.

To fix this, please send your domain hosting company the following message:

I have built a site on Wix.com. Please connect my domain to their name servers- NS1.WIX.COM (IP address216.139.213.90) and NS2.WIX.COM (IP address

After sending your message, please allow up to 72 hours for changes to get updated (propagate).

We are here should you require any further assistance.

Best Regards, Nati - Wix Support Team

I noticed you have canceled the premium package.

Please keep in mind: Connecting a domain is a premium feature.

In order to activate your domain, you will need to repurchase a new premium package.

Your pointing configuration in your registrar (not Wix, but your actual domain host) is incorrect.
To fix this, please follow the instructions here

Advanced: See the DNS records for this domain

I can't connect my domain that I purchased elsewhere to this website although I upgraded to premium and the domain host is not listed and when I choose "other" It says there's no step by step instructions.

I can see that you have properly assigned your domain to your Premium site, however, the pointing configuration with your registrar isn't updated with the Wix name servers.

In order to complete the domain connection process, please ask your hosting company (where you purchased your domain name from) to point your domain to the Wix server using the following cnames:

Note that once they have made the changes, the domain can take 72 hours to fully propagate.

    I have a quick query.

I will be transferring my domain name from another registrar in a few days. I am currently getting my site organised ready before I go premium and transfer over the domain name for the site im currently getting ready. Will the transferring of the domain clear/reset the website the current free website I am working on when I upgrade it to premium?

      Hello freebackingtracks ,

Thank you for contacting Wix support.

Wix never deletes/changes any of your sites (unless asked to)! Don't worry your site will stay the same- the only difference when upgrading to a premium plan and connecting a domain is the removal of the Wix ads!

So in short - no, your site will stay the same.

Feel free to contact us should you require any further assistance.

      Kind regards, Amit

So, I run to buy the correct domain at namecheap (www.almapedia.com) and need to transfer the site ASAP to the correct domain. Need your help ASAP.

      Hi Guy,

It is not possible to transfer a domain during the initial 60 day period after registering the domain. This is in accordance with the regulations established by ICANN (the domain regulatory body), and cannot be circumvented by Wix. This limitation applies to both incoming (to Wix) and outgoing (away from Wix) transfers.
If you are unable to transfer your domain to Wix due to this limitation, please note that you are able to connect your domain to Wix in the meantime. For information about connecting your domain to Wix, click here.
If you are unable to transfer your domain away from Wix due to this limitation, please note that you are able to point your domain away from Wix in the meantime. To point your domain to a different IP address, you will need to modify the domain's A records. You will need to contact your new host and request for the relevant IP address. For more information about how to edit your A records, click here.
We are here should you require further assistance.

      Many thanks, Barrios

We have purchased our domain name with wix yesterday after designing the web site with them.
We could not buy a .com.au so opted for .com because it was free.

It would be an advantage to have the .com.au as we live in Australia and the customers can see straight away that we operate from Australia. Since we are a small business and very personalised this is very important to us. We will have to get more stationary done and would like to put the .com.au on there.

What will we have to do If we purchase the domain name with .com.au elsewhere? Is it possible to transfer this particular domain name to my existing wix web site?

      Thanks for contacting Wix Support.

You will need to purchase the .com.au domain from another domain provider.

Then you can connect it using the instructions in the best reply above.

      All best

    Hi ,

I have my domain hosted at crazy domains.

I have a couple of questions.

I am connecting via the pointing method.

I can add the c name record but cannot add the A name as it says the ip does not exist.

    Any assistance would be grateful.

lastly with the named server method do I leave Crazy Domains and come to WIX. do I need a premium package for either of these ie pointing or named.

      Thank you for contacting us.

      1. Which IP are you trying to add as an A record? Please make sure to use the IP displayed here.

      2. If you'll connect the domain using nameservers your domain host will still be Crazy Domains. However, your domain records will be managed through Wix.

For both options (pointing and nameservers) you need to purchase a premium plan

Please allow 72 hours for domain record changes to propagate.

While browsing the web, your computer and browser store various information. This build up of information can sometimes cause conflict.

Please clear your browser's cache. You can find step by step instructions here.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if the error is not resolved.
