If you have purchased a domain from Wix, it is possible to transfer it to another domain host, if necessary.

To transfer a Wix domain: Sign in to your Wix account > from the top menu, hover over Subscriptions > click Domains > click Manage next to the relevant domain.

Under Domain Summary, click the Advanced tab > on the right, click Transfer away from Wix > click Send.

 

An email code will be sent to your email address. This code should be forwarded to your new domain host.

 

Note: In accordance with ICANN rules, you will only be able to transfer your domain 60 days after purchasing it from Wix.

 

Note: If you were referring to a non-Wix Domain which you connected to your Wix site, you will need to contact your domain host for assistance with disconnecting your domain from Wix.

    Hello. 

    I have completed all of the steps to transfer my domain away from Wix to a new registrar, however although authorization code has been sent to me and I have input the information, the transfer is still in process and tech support from my new registrar tells me that they are awaiting confirmation from you. Is there any way that we could possibly nudge this transfer along a little faster? (I have been waiting about 4 days)

      Hi,

      I can see that the domain is still with us. Please note that once you receive our code the process is rolling over to your target host.

      Please note, that this can take up to 7 business days.

      Thanks Ritti. 

      I was issued the code input it as soon as it was received with my new registrar on June 5th, so I assume that the process should be underway.  However, this is day 5 of my wait, and I am wondering if there is any way to expedite this process. I have asked my new registrar, but they say there is nothing that they can do until Wix has released the domain to them. Also, whenever I visit the domain, there is a message that tells me that I am "trying to connect your domain to wix.com". 

      What is the process in making this transfer happen, and is it possible for the transfer to be completed soon? 7 business days is a long time to wait and I was really banking on this being completed in less than a week. Please help!

      Hi,

      As much as we would like to help you, unfortunately it is not possible to speed this process.

      In the meanwhile, you can point your domain to external IP address in order to connect the domain to the external site.

      To point your domain to a different IP address, you will need to modify the domain's A records. You will need to contact your new host and request for the relevant IP address. For more information about how to edit your A records, click here.

      Please note,

      I have changed your current MX records, please allow 24 hours to pass, then retry.

       

      Meanwhile, kindly ask your domain host to provide you with the up-to-date A records, to make sure everything is sorted out.

    Hi,

    I think we just passed 48 hours since the update. Current status is:

    We are able to send mails to any email.

    But not receiving any mails from both internal and external ids.

    Kindly advise.

    I followed the instructions but the message to "Transfer domain away from WIX" does not appear. please help! Very frustrating that I can't call a service number to talk to someone immediately.

      Hello,

       

      Please note that your domain was not purchased at Wix, therefore it i impossible to transfer it away from Wix.

    Please allow up to 48 hours to pass in order for the records to fully update.

     

    If the issue persists, please contact your email host, and verify that all the email records are correct.

    Thank you. it is working now, but one exception.

    It is not receiving mails from external domains. A sample error message from gmail  below.

    My domain was about to expire and I wanted to transfer my site to WordPress but manage it on GoDaddy. I followed all directions and put the transfer code in before expiration. It said it transferred correctly to GoDaddy and it says it is mapped correctly on WordPress. The domain is now listed as expired in Wix. However, when I map it to WordPress it still maps to Wix and wants to show me how to register my domain with Wix. This is frustrating. I've tried finding a phone number for customer service and have reached out on social media with no response. What can I do to get my site working properly and out of your system or whatever?

      Your domain opens up your WordPress site; it is no longer connected to Wix.  There is nothing you need to do about this domain in your Wix account.
