If you have purchased a domain from Wix, it is possible to transfer it to another domain host, if necessary.

To transfer a Wix domain: Sign in to your Wix account > from the top menu, hover over Subscriptions > click Domains > click Manage next to the relevant domain.

Under Domain Summary, click the Advanced tab > on the right, click Transfer away from Wix > click Send.

An email code will be sent to your email address. This code should be forwarded to your new domain host.

Note: In accordance with ICANN rules, you will only be able to transfer your domain 60 days after purchasing it from Wix.

Note: If you were referring to a non-Wix Domain which you connected to your Wix site, you will need to contact your domain host for assistance with disconnecting your domain from Wix.

For further information on transferring your domain, click here or watch the video below!

My domain was about to expire and I wanted to transfer my site to WordPress but manage it on GoDaddy. I followed all directions and put the transfer code in before expiration. It said it transferred correctly to GoDaddy and it says it is mapped correctly on WordPress. The domain is now listed as expired in Wix. However, when I map it to WordPress it still maps to Wix and wants to show me how to register my domain with Wix. This is frustrating. I've tried finding a phone number for customer service and have reached out on social media with no response. What can I do to get my site working properly and out of your system or whatever?

      Hi aschrader7831,

Your domain opens up your WordPress site; it is no longer connected to Wix.  There is nothing you need to do about this domain in your Wix account.

      Hello,

I have double checked and my control panel differs to the one in the help video.

Under the Advanced tab under domains, there is no option to transfer away.

Privacy is turned off and the domain was purchased around 6 months ago.

Please could you take a look and let me know how to transfer away?

      Many thanks,

As the third party is awaiting the transfer code.

Why must we wait 60 days to transfer the domain we purchased through Wix to another web host? I recently purchased my domain and decided the Wix would not work for our website so we built it elsewhere. I am currently out of a website for 60 days!!??

    Can anyone help me?

    • Ron Wix Team

Replied by Ron May 29, 2014

      Hi,

It is not possible to transfer a domain in the initial 60 day period after registering the domain. This is in accordance with the regulation established by ICANN (the domain regulatory body), and cannot be circumvented by Wix. This limitation applies to both incoming (to Wix) and outgoing (away from Wix) transfers.

If you are unable to transfer your domain to Wix due to this limitation, please note that you are able to connect your domain to Wix in the meantime. For information about connecting your domain to Wix, click here.

If you are unable to transfer your domain away from Wix due to this limitation, please note that you are able to point your domain away from Wix in the meantime. To point your domain to a different IP address, you will need to modify the domain's A records. You will need to contact your new host and request for the relevant IP address. For more information about how to edit your A records, click here.

      Hi,

I apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused you.

Your domain has expired and it is impossible to transfer an expired domain.

In order to extend it, please follow these steps:

      1. Click on the domain tab -> click on "Manage" next to the domain name you want to use.

      2. Click Manage Payments.

      3. Click Update payment method.

      4. Fill in your current credit card information.

      5. Click OK.

      Then repeat the transfer process.

Please inform us whether you need any further assistance,

Hi Im having trouble transferring my Wix domain name to vista print website. I have got my code several times now and still don't have a place put it. I don't understand what I'am meant to do with it as my Vista print provider said they do not accept a code my Wix provider will have to set it up through IP Address!

    HELP!!!! What do I do?

I really need to speak to someone over the phone of on a live chat about this ASAP!

    • Omer Wix Team

Replied by Omer May 27, 2014

      Hey,

If vista print won't accept the code then that means they do not support a domain transfer to be hosted by them.

If they ask you to change the IP for your domain, that means changing the A records of the domain in the Wix domain manager.

      What are A records?

    Hi

I received my Transfer Code and passed it on to my new registrar but they said they cannot commence as the domain name is currently locked.

Can you advise what to do please?

    Thanks

      Hey,

Checking your domain on whois (http://who.is/whois/royal-house-events.com) shows the status of the domain is ok. If it was locked then the status would be "client transfer prohibited" which is not the case.

Please check again with the destination host where they are seeing the domain is still locked

      Hi

I have been in touch with new hosting company and they said this:

I've checked this domain but its not currently pointing toward us. Its pointing toward Register.com (NSI-US). It doesn't look as if the IPS tag for the domain has been changed, could you ask this domain registrar to change the IPS tag to UKWEBHOSTING please?

      Thanks

You don't have a Wix domain and this is why there is no link. A Wix domain is one purchased through us. Your domain is provided by GoDaddy, please contact them.
