If you have purchased a domain from Wix, it is possible to transfer it to another domain host, if necessary.

To transfer a Wix domain: Sign in to your Wix account > from the top menu, hover over Subscriptions > click Domains > click Manage next to the relevant domain.

Under Domain Summary, click the Advanced tab > on the right, click Transfer away from Wix > click Send.

An email code will be sent to your email address. This code should be forwarded to your new domain host.

Note: In accordance with ICANN rules, you will only be able to transfer your domain 60 days after purchasing it from Wix.

Note: If you were referring to a non-Wix Domain which you connected to your Wix site, you will need to contact your domain host for assistance with disconnecting your domain from Wix.

Need to transfer my away from Wix back to Godaddy

I need to transfer my DNS/Domain hosting away from WIx back to another host. My customer has asked me to do some things that I simply can't do through Wix, so I need it hosted by a different company.

I have only had the account for around 36 days. When I set everything up, I didn't realize I was transfer control of the DNS records from Godaddy to Wix. So, I need to move them back to Godaddy.

How can I do this? I tried simply using the DNS manager in Wix, but it does not let me edit the Nameservers. Plus, there is some restriction that I can't fully understand on not being able to transfer for 60 days??? I MUST do this for them TODAY.

I have the website fully developed and ready, but just can't get the DNS pointing to the right place when they go to www.lmurraycounseling.com.

It appears that Wix is controlling the DNS records and not letting me change two of the key ones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You have initiated a DNS connection process to Wix with your domain lmurraycounseling.com.

Please allow 72 hours to pass for the changes to fully propagate.

Please inquire GoDaddy as to the date you first purchased your domain. In case it has been over 60 days, you can initiate the transfer process right away, by following the instructions above.

Please note that these regulations are not Wix's, but those of ICANN.

Please let us know in case you need further help.

      All the best, Or

I've asked the transfer to my domain yesterday, since per example godaddy does it in max a couple of hours I don't understand why it should take that long for my domain to stop being managed from Wix, can you please add this name servers for merchandisesalon.com:

    Ip address:

    Thank you.

I've contacted Bravenet and they replied this to me:

      Dear R. S.,

Your domain is still being transferred. Domain transfers can take 4-7 days to complete. During this time, the DNS records are locked and cannot be modified. When the transfer is completed by your old Domain registrar everything should resume working appropriately on Bravenet.

One other thing is that I noticed the nameservers in that domain's DNS records point to Wix. When the domain transfer completes you will have to change the nameservers to Bravenet's nameservers, or the domain will not connect to Bravenet to host the site content.

If there's anything else I can help with just let me know.

Please note that for further information regarding the transfer status you should contact your new domain registrar, as you did.

Note that domain transfers usually indeed take 7 days to complete so please be patient.

Please note that unfortunately your cannot change your Wix domain name servers.

      Thanks again for your reply.

So if I cannot change the name servers that means that even after the transfer is completed it will not be possible to point the domain merchandisesalon.com to the new webspace (site) and the domain will actually be useless at that point?

Replied by Kosta July 9, 2014

Please note that you will able to point your domain any where you would like. I can not tell if your domain registrar allow changing name servers or not, you should check those details with them.

Thanks for getting in touch with us!

To connect your site to an existing domain, you can either transfer the domain to Wix, or connect it by DNS records. Please note that both options are premium features, and require a premium plan.

You can currently only transfer domains with the following extensions: .com, .org, .net, .biz, .co.uk, .info, .co, .guru, .email, .expert, and .tv

To transfer your domain, please verify that at least 60 days have passed since you registered or last transferred your domain and make sure that your domain is unlocked. For more information please click here.

After a domain transfer is successful, your computer/browser might still be directed to the old site when you try to access the domain. This normally resolves itself after several days depending on the router/browser settings but in order to fix this immediately you should clear your browsers cache and flush the DNS.

Transferring your domain to Wix is not the same as connecting your domain to your Wix site.

If you would like to keep your domain with your current domain host, but connect the domain to your Wix site, please click here to learn more.

Regarding the second issue you've mentioned, I visited your site and experienced no difficulties on my end.

While browsing on the web, your computer and browser stores various information. This build up of information can sometimes cause conflict.

Please clear your browser's cache. You can find step by step instructions here.

Should the problem persist please let us know.

Don't hesitate to contact us again,

Please note that once the code is transferred, the rest of the procedure is in the control of the new registrar. Please contact your new registrar for further information regarding the transfer process and the current status of your domain.

If you need any further assistance from Wix, please let us know.

I've done everything I need to do to get my domain, demographicsent.com, transferred to bluehost. I just need to let wix know that I've done that and for them to release my domain  and approve the transfer so the transfer can finally go through. How do I do that?

Thank you for contacting the Wix support team!

To transfer your Wix domain from Wix:

      1. From your Domain Manager, under My Domains, next to your Wix domain, click Manage.
      2. Under Domain Summary, click the Advanced tab.
      3. Next to Transfer away from Wix, click Transfer (please make sure to turn off Private Registration if it is on).

      4. In the Transfer window, click Send.

      5. An email with a code will be sent to you. Forward this code to your new domain registrar.
You may not receive the email immediately, but you can expect to receive it on the same day.

Your Wix domain is transferred from Wix.

We are here should you have any further questions!

      Many thanks, Barrios

I did all of that, but now bluehost says "You will need to contact Network Solutions, LLC, who is the current registrar for the domain and have them approve the transfer. Otherwise the transfer should proceed within 7 days of the transfer purchase. "

So how do I contact Network Solutions to approve my transfer?

You will need to use to code provided you in the transfer confirmation mail. Please check your mailbox and forward it to Bluehost.

      Thank you in advance.

Please note that your domain bidayamedia.com is not a Wix domain and it hasn't been purchased from Wix, therefore the instructions on how to transfer a Wix domain away from Wix are irrelevant.

As you can see here the registrar of your domain is ENOM and your domain is currently connected to Wix using our Name Servers (ns1.wix.com and ns2.wix.com). If you would like to disconnect your domain from Wix, please ask your hosting company to disconnect it from the Wix Name Servers.

If you need any further assistance, please let us know.

Your domain was not purchased from wix, it simply connects to wix servers.

If you would like to disconnect your domain from Wix, please ask your hosting company (WEBFUSION LTD.)  to disconnect it from the Wix Name Servers.
