*This feature has not yet been released to all users.*

You can currently only transfer domains with the following extensions: .com, .org, .net, .biz, .info.

You can transfer your domain from another registrar to your Wix account. To transfer your domain, please verify that at least 60 days have passed since you registered or last transferred your domain and make sure that your domain is unlocked.

For more information please click here.

After a domain transfer is successful, your computer/browser might still be directed to the old site when you try to access the domain.

This normally resolves itself after several days depending on the router/browser settings but in order to fix this immediately you should clear your browsers cache and flush the DNS.

Note: Transferring your domain to Wix is not the same as connecting your domain to your Wix site. If you would like to keep your domain with your current domain host, but connect the domain to your Wix site, please click here to learn more.

Thanks, Nicole,

There is a great deal of confusion in regard to bringing my domain to upgrade my WIX website for www.salemmennonite.us . While some of your info suggest that anything other than .com, .org, .net, .biz. and .info cannot be dealt with by by WIX.  But other instances like for example  .co.uk address are directed that the CAN be used.  I have worked quite a bit to build my free website for a church so I could upgrade at the UNLIMITED PLAN and use the salemmennonite.us domain for them  This is important since they have had their domain and Google analytics connections for their email addresses for a few years now. This domain was purchased from GoDaddy, and they said they didn't understand there should be a problem as long as all the designations were made. So the big important question is . . . can I make the switch or not?        Jack Salsburey  -  webmaster@salemmennonite.us

Your details are still so vague . . . Am I reading you correctly?  When someone goes to the www.salemennonite.us they would still see that old design and then have the option to click to the WIX design I have there? -  or would it automatically re-direct to the WIX site.  In either case am I hearing that the WIX ads would still be present?  I have the feeling that this question comes up a lot and the explanation REALLY needs to be more detailed.  Is there someone I can speak to over the phone to help me understand the answers to the questions I have?  There are SO many variables not covered by your explanations it leaves the the answers somewhere in incompletion.

Q1. You will be able to connect your own domain: salemmennonite.us to your Wix site.

Currently, it is not possible to transfer a domain with .us extension to Wix hosting but you can connect this domain to Wix by pointing the domain to Wix name servers.

Please note: Connecting a domain to your site is a premium feature, if your site is not yet upgraded please click here.

Once you properly connect your domain to your Wix site, your visitors will be automatically redirected to you new Wix site, when they will type the domain at the browser address bar.

Transferring your domain to Wix refers to transferring your domain from another domain host to Wix. After doing so:
      - Wix will become the domain host, which means that domain renewal will be done from your Wix account, and not with your previous domain host.
      - You will be able to manage your DNS records from your Wix account. This includes connecting your e-mail, pointing your domain to a different IP address, connecting subdomains, etc.
For more information about transferring your domain to Wix, click here.

Connecting your domain to Wix refers to connecting your domain to Wix, either via name servers or pointing. Connecting your domain to Wix means that:
      - Your domain remains hosted by another domain host, and so domain renewal will be done from your current domain registrar.
      - If your domain is connected via name servers, you will be able to manage your DNS records from your Wix account.
      - If your domain is connected via pointing, your DNS records are managed via your domain host.
For more information about connecting your domain to Wix, click here.

Q2. Regarding Wix ads, you can remove the Wix ads from your site by upgrading your site to a plan that includes removing the Wix ads.

You can review all the upgrade plans here .

Regarding this random message I found in the middle of this Forum with my login name on it:

    1. Why wasn't this emailed to me? I have been waiting for an email with detailed instructions. These are not detailed enough for me.

    2. Where is my DNS record and how do I get into it?

    3. When I tried to schedule a call the verification worked but there was no option after that to book the call. I started over and then the verification would not work.

This was my response... is this correct...
As I see it you will now host the website aswell as the mail will come through wix??
    Is this correct?

    Hi Kenny

Please be advised that if the domains name servers are changed all records (website and email) will be inactive on mweb servers. If any records or altercations happen on that zone file, we would not be able to assist as the records will not be in the hands of mweb.

Please advise and confirm via email that changing the name servers will exclude MWEB from any liability of any security nature that can possibly occur by changing the name servers as requested.

      Dear Kenny,

DNS is the management of your domain – i.e. you use it anytime you point your domain to an IP address, redirect emails to your email host or connect different subdomains to different servers.

Pointing your domain to the Wix IP means that your domain host retains control of your DNS and simply points your domain to the Wix servers.

The difference between pointing to the Wix IP or connecting with name servers is really a difference in who has control over your DNS – Wix or your domain host.

Please Note: Wix does NOT Recommend Pointing
Instead we recommend connecting your domain to Wix using Wix name servers.

Down time when Wix IP changes:
The primary reason we recommend connecting your domain to Wix using Wix name servers is that the Wix IP address might change in order to prevent your site from going down. This happens from time to time when natural disasters, server problem and other problems occur.
In such events, domains connected to Wix by name servers will automatically have their DNS records updated. However, domains that are connected to Wix by IP pointing will not work until you request the new IP# from us and then manually make the changes with your domain host. This will result in a much longer down time.

Less support & assistance: When you connect your domain to Wix by nameservers, we can offer support and assist you in creating any DNS records you might need. Whereas if you connect to Wix by pointing you would need to contact your domain host with any domain/DNS related issues.

Feature updates must be made manually: We can automatically modify your DNS to accommodate any new feature that requires DNS changes (like WixMobile, and any other possible features that we might release in the future). When choosing pointing you would need to manually make these changes with your domain host.

For more information about Domain Management, click here.
If you're having trouble connecting your domain, click here.

Please note that after changing name servers, emails can be connected through MX records.

If connecting through name servers isn't possible, ask the domain host to point example.com, m.example.com and www.example.com to the IP you see below.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any further questions.

      Sincerely, Leah Wix Team

    Cost Saving if Domain Transfer?

I bought my domain with DreamHost and I'm currently paying them $200 for hosting per year and paying Wix $200 for the premium package per year.

Am I able to transfer my domain hosting to WIX and save money? If so, what would it cost (is it included in what I'm already spending) and how? Would their be any lapse in the availability of my site online?

    Thank you,

This just in from  www.gbis.com, the company that I registered the domain www.brumblepulbications.com with.

We currently do not physically host brumblepublications.com but have record pointing to where it does exist.  We also handle email for it.  We need either a new IP address for where it is on wix.com OR the nameservers for wix.com.  The nameservers contain the IP address and point requests for a website to the correct location.

As I am a 72 year old and somewhat unsophisticated in internet things, I would beg you to handle this for me.

    Thank you.

Contact your domain host and ask them to connect your domain to Wix's the name servers (ns1.wix.com & ns2.wix.com).

      Hi Kenny,

If you have a premium plan and own a domain, you can assign a domain name to your Wix site.

First you will need to add the domain to your account using your preferred method.

      a) Purchase the domain from Wix

      b) Transfer the domain to Wix

      c) Connect the domain to Wix name servers

To assign a domain: Sign in to your Wix account > from the menu at the top, hover over Subscriptions > click Domains > next to the relevant domain, click Manage.

Under Domain Connects To, click Change > select a site > click Save.

For further instructions on assigning your domain, click here.

      Many thanks, Barrios
