    web domain

Not exactly thrilled that my domain name through another host has to wait 60 days before I can use it.  I have paid for Wix and now I am told to wait - that is 2 months of no website!!!!  Unacceptable!!!!  I have a certificate and a paid domain - I should be able to use it now to get my website up and running immediately.

      Hi Jamie,

Thank you for contacting us regarding this matter.

I've merged your post into a relevant thread.

You can certainly use your domain purchased elsewhere with your Wix site.

You can set this up immediately as you have already upgraded your site to premium status.

Connecting a domain to your Wix site may take up to 72 hours.

For reference, the 60 day waiting period regards transferring your domain from your current host to Wix.

The 60 day waiting period is not a Wix law but an ICAAN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) law which applies to all companies.

To learn about connecting your domain, please refer to the best reply above, or follow the instructions here.

Keep in mind that we recommend that you connect your domain via Name Servers as explained in option 1.

Feel free to contact us again should you require any further assistance.

      All the best, Ellie

      Hi Elle

I can appreciate that it is 60 days by ICAAN and as this wasn't jumping out at me when I set up the account can you advise how I cancel and gain a refund for my premium account for this account as I am wasting money with WIX for 2 months and losing business.  I can go to another provider and get this up and running now.  Please advise who I speak with to fix this now.  I would like to know within the next 24 hours as my business is being affected due to this.  If there is an issue I will get advise from Australian Securities and Investment Commission - who is our legal entity in Australia  on how to manage such business issues.

      Hi jamieandjayc,

I deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused to you by this matter.

Please note that you only have to wait 60 days if you wish to transfer your domain to Wix so that Wix is your domain host.
However, you are able to connect your domain to your Wix site using the DNS connection method - without any waiting time.

Transferring your domain to Wix means that your domain will be moved from the domain host that you purchased the domain from, to Wix. Your domain will no longer be managed by the domain host, rather:

      - Wix will become the domain host, which means that domain renewal will be done from your Wix account, and not from your previous domain host.
      - You will be able to manage your DNS records from your Wix account. This includes connecting your e-mail, pointing your domain to a different IP address, connecting subdomains, etc.
Please note: You can currently transfer only domains with the following extensions: .com, .org, .net, .biz. and .info.

For more information on transferring a domain to Wix, please click here.

Connecting your domain to Wix means that your domain remains with the domain host that you purchased the domain from, but is connected to your Wix site, either via name servers or pointing. In this case:

      - Your domain remains hosted by the domain host, and therefore domain renewals, contact information updates and billing inquiries must be done through your current domain host and not through Wix.
      - If your domain is connected via name servers, you will be able to manage your DNS records from your Wix account.
      - If your domain is connected via pointing, your DNS records are managed via your domain host.

For more information about connecting your domain to Wix, click here.

Please note that this process may take up to 72 hours to take effect.

We are here should you need any further assistance.

Best Regards, Nati - Wix Support Team

60 Days for a start up business is huge - so your comment has insulted me and I will be moving accounts over the next 12 months from WIX as they come to an end - you are obviously an employee and don't run a business yourself.

I am going to lose money transferring from my domain supplier now as I have signed up with them for two years as their host costs are lower than what WIX provides and also provide future option of the .com.au account which is disappointing WIX doesn't supply.

Anyway I will try and see if I can transfer it across your information is not easy to follow so I am very unimpressed and will tell everyone I  network with how difficult WIX can be for Australian providers who a new to this process.

I won't correspond anymore with WIX on this issue anymore and I have now lost a week and my time that should be dedicated to prospectives to this inconvenient mess.

I have two accounts with WIX all will be moved at the end of my contract and I will be putting in a note to ASIC for them to put WIX on their watch list for complaints.

Unfortunately, the 60 days are not a restriction from Wix, it comes from ICANN.

As Nati told you, you can connect your domain to Wix and keep the site up.

Connecting and transferring a domain is not the same, you can check the difference in here.

      All best,

    Hi there,

I used Google Apps to register my domain name www.harporeconsulting.com. I have set up a site on wix.com and gone through the pointing process. I have also contacted google with the information provided in the setup guide but they are unable to change anything apparently. I need my site showing at the above web address asap.

Why no free email when you purchase a wix domain and host on wix?

I just purchased a domain from you, mercadobakery.com, and was surprised to learn
that you don't have free email with the domain! I have another domain via GoDaddy and they provide free email, as do many other companies. Why do I have to pay $5 PER MONTH per email
box. That's just not fair. If I had known there was no free email I would have registered my domain through GoDaddy. I am very very pleased with the many features and ease of editing my two WIX sites but am severely disappointed with paying $60 a year for email.

    • vbarr4

      Replied by vbarr4 July 2, 2014

Why no response to this question? I might have to transfer my domain to GoDaddy, get free email and continue to host the website on WIX. I love your site and the ease in creating a stunning website, but I HATE the fact there is NO FREE EMAIL like GoDaddy and many many others. Paying $60 a year for a Google email STINKS. Please correct this so I can recommend WIX and also use WIX to create my customers' websites.

I have just brought my domain name through you, and no where did it state that you had to upgrade to connect it! If I knew that was the case I would of upgraded and not just brought the domain name! I am expecting a refund so I can then pay for the upgrade and get the FREE domain name.

      Thank you for contacting Wix.

We are sorry to hear that you feel this way. Please take a look at the screenshot below. It displays the screen you see prior to purchasing a domain. There it clearly states that in order to connect a domain, you must first upgrade your account to premium.

I followed your (extremely confusing) instructions to the letter.  Now when I go to www.westphysio.com it redirects to www.www.westphysio.com  Telling me to follow the instructions again, really isn't a solution.

I'm not impressed to say the least.  Your website is very confusing - driving me in a circle on numerous occasions.

I am hosting my website currently with bigrock.com and want to transfer the hosting to wix as I have upgraded to the premium package. I am unable to do so. I have updated the name servers at bigrock but the same is not reflecting . When I check connection it still says that the name servers are not pointing to the domain. i request you to help me out with this.

      Hi Shilpa,

As you can check by clicking here, your domain bigrock.com is indeed not pointing to the Wix name servers.

When connecting your domain to the Wix name servers there are two important steps that you must complete.

      1) Firstly you must go to Subscriptions > Domains) and add your domain.
For more information, please click here.
      2) Please contact your domain host and ask them to connect your domain via the name servers (ns1.wix.com & ns2.wix.com).
Both of these steps are essential and the omission of either will result in a domain that’s not connected correctly.
You can troubleshoot your domain here.
Note: Please make sure to firstly add your domain name under the Wix domain manager
      Best Regards,

Help!  We currently have a website with another company but want to change it to a Wix website.

We purchased the domain name we are currently using with the other company.

I have built a free website ready but am not sure how to connect the domain name.

I know we need to upgrade to a premium account to do this but I keep reading that you can only connect certain domains.  Therefore, before I purchase the premium account I want to check I can use a .org.uk domain name with wix.

    • Hércules Wix Team

Replied by Hércules July 1, 2014

Yes, for sure you can connect you .org.uk domain to Wix. Notice that you can only transfer certain domains to Wix.

An answer to this topic can be found in What is the difference between transferring my domain to Wix and connecting my domain to Wix?

In order to connect your domain to Wix you just have to follow the above Best Reply´s instructions.

Currently, it is not possible to transfer a .org.uk domain to Wix, only to connect it.

Should you require any further assistance, do not hesitate to contact us.
