If you don't want your site to be visible to search engines, you can unpublish it by going to settings > Site Optimization > uncheck "Let search engines find my website".

Once you have unchecked this box be sure to hit Save!

Please note: Your Wix domain will still be online. After you have saved your document one time, your site will be published. If you use your own domain, you can ask your domains hosting company to point it to another server.

If you would like to temporarily remove your site from the web completely, you can create a new page that says that your site is under construction and make it the first page of your site. If you don't add menus or buttons that lead to your other pages, this page will be the only page your users see!

    Would it work to :
Open your site in the editor; without making changes save it (save as) with a new name; check that the new one is really there and works; delete the old one.

Why does my unpublished site show up in Google Image search?

Please take down all my entries in search engines, so I can start my new website from scratch. Karen Kaback

I am having problems-seems as if I cannot find my completed website, so I would lie to take everything related to karenkaback down and off search engines so I can start anew.

@RobynHoodridge, The steps you listed is not how to unpublish your site. To unpublish your site please follow the steps in the Best Reply answer at the top.

@producer1 and @karenkaback, search engines  scan everything that goes online and then indexes it in their search results. This is something outside of our control. Feel free to try and contact Google (or other search engine bots) to expedite the removal of your unwanted content.

@producer1, Your unpublished image is still indexed in google. The image you are seeing is a cached version (a copy) and not the original. Once Google recrawls your site again, it will see the image has been removed and then it will remove the image completely from its database.

@karenkaback, Once you delete your site from your account, Google will recrawl it and then remove it from their database. I was able to find your account, are you still having problems finding your documents?

If I create a under construction page on my website how can I then edit it if I hide all the buttons? My page is not complete and I need to make changes but I do not want it to be live.

@xltrainrecruit To unpublish your site please follow the steps in the Best Reply answer at the top.

@sashannon9 The Under Construction page will appear first on your live site with no buttons on it, so it is all users can see. You will be able to see your site in the editor but clicking on your master that your site is on.

    @chloeleeloh

The Wix URL is made of www.wix.com/username/documentname.

In order to change the name of your Wix creation, please click on "file"->"save as" -> name the website however you want.
Then you'll find two identical websites in your account, delete the spare one (or not if you want re-use it) and you're done!

These other sites are deleted. They still appear on Google searches but as they have already been deleted, they will be removed in time. Google takes time to react, it is not immediate.

Once published your site automatically is applying for Google to scan it. You can read more about the art of Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) through here .

Hi How can I delete files that I have uploaded to 'documents' section of my wix site? I have an old CV saved there that is continually appearing in Google search results.

Please, please advise ASAP. I am currently looking for work and this is doing me no favours.

Once you update your website your website needs to be crawled again by the search engine in order for the change to appear in search results.

This may take up to a couple of months. To view the last time Google crawled your website you can use the following search: cache:www.yourdomain.com. Through this window you can see how Google sees your website and the date on which it last crawled your website and created a cached image of it.

To speed the process you can submit your website directly to Google here.

How can I stop Wix from automatically publishing my site every time I save?

I am building my site bit by bit and have published it in order to see how it displays on various monitors/laptops in order to get the dimensions right.

Now everytime I make a change to the site and save it, Wix publishes it automatically. I just want to save the site WITHOUT publishing. (I may be right in the middle of big changes that are not complete and I would not want the world to see). Is this possible please?

    Regards,

    Nigel
