Wix has added a robots.txt to these files contained in all Wix sites, to prevent Google from crawling the noflashhtml and backhtml links inside Wix sites. If you are experiencing this issue, it will be resolved the next time Google crawls your site.

I am looking for the same info. My domain host for SEO validation requires me to add a line to the robot.txt file. How can I do this for my site?

    Hi @OntarioHockeyAcademy

As Nicole said, it's not possible to upload a robot.txt file, or to edit a robot.txt file with Wix.

    It's not possible.

Ask them if there is a DNS verification method possible.

If the best answer is 'it isn't impossible' thats not too promising. What does 'its not impossible' mean?

"It's not possibe" means exactly that. It is not possible to do what you are asking.

Wix team I have to say that you're answers are very curt for employees of a company that sells itself as being a website design company for the technically challenged. For those of us that are not as technically superior to you get off your pretentious high horses.

If it's impossible for us to, then will you? We NEED this done.

    I have a similar issue.

Google for some reason is still crawling my site using my old robots.txt file on my old server. This is really hurting my SEO search results because over 30 links return a 404 (source: Google crawl errors).

    Two Questions:

    1) Why is Google still using my old robots.txt file and not the new Wix one?

2 )What is the equivalent of uploading a new version of my robots.txt file on my root directory on Wix?

    Hi chr756,

Google is not using your old robots.txt file.

The results you see is an error on google's end. If you check your site in google (site:yourdomain.co.uk), then you will see all of the listed links.

The first link is the version cached by google on June 14th. Google had not crawled the other links since you came to Wix (the other pages have all been cached before may 9th). Once google crawls these pages, they will be removed from the search results.

I see you're using Google Webmaster Tools. Although we do not currently support this tool, I suggest you apply for URL removal through Google Webmaster Tools and list all of the URLs there. This should help speed up the process for your site.

Regarding the other question- currently you cannot customize your robots.txt file. We have a system that does this automatically as you update your site. We may offer more freedom with the robots.txt file in the future, but for now we do not offer this functionality.
