Wix is a great CMS though it is missing a few important features. One feature I feel is highly needed is a search bar, that allows visitors to the site to search for keywords or phrases that are on the site. example: if i have a site on photography and someone searches "bird" it should bring up the results for bird and pull up anything on my site that matches the search. 

I have tried to get this feature to work by using third party HTML widgets from google though still I have had no success . Is there any one who has been succesfull in doing this? Or is this something to look forward to on wix?

It's not possible yet (see the best reply).

The HTML Widget won't work either as it can't scan the content inside your website, for 2 reasons:

1. The search bar you're using probably can't scan .swf and .fla files

2. The HTML widget is actually an iframe layered over the website- as such, the search bar will need to be set to scan your specific URL/Domain- and even then it is unlikely to work properly.

This is a feature we're working on.

I am glad to see that the Wix team is working on getting a search bar in to the builder. I would just like to ask that if Wix is going to put a search bar, what capabilities will it have?

the capabilities of the search box will be known closer to the release date. You will be able to search through all the content in your site... You can stay up to date with our Coming Soon and Wishlist pages.

i need the search bar so desperately in this site...

I agree with chrisnojen117 , this feature is really needed, in special in integration with registration and login page support.

I think the search bar is a great item to have on our sites. Yet, having the option to install a drop-down menu has really helped me in making what I want for the site. Not having search lead me to asking about installing a drop-down menu. Although you say it's for advanced users, I still found it great to have so that I can put all my products in by catagory and allow the users to go to specific items that way.

I would like to add a Search Bar/button on my wix page. Please add this to your list of upcoming features. Thanks!

With links to pages within the site, you can create a site map, right?  That might be helpful.

Also, if you have google maps, can't you get a google search box.  I guess you might have to pay for it, but i think it's worth it.

All websites in Wix have a sitemap created for them, you can view this by adding /sitemap.xml at the end of your domain name.

If you need a navigation sitemap for your website visitors - then no, there is no auto feature like that in Wix, but you can simply create one. Just link the pages and areas by using the "Link" option on the property panel on the right side, and there you go!

We are working on this feature and expect it to be ready soon. However, it’s still in development and we don’t yet have an exact release date; we don't believe in promising anything we might not be able to deliver! We are just as excited as you about the coming release of this feature and are working on adding it as soon as possible.

As for the files download, Currently it isn't possible to let viewers download music from a Wix site.

Is it possible to have a site Search Component??

Generally, people do like to just do a quick search of a word/phrase/pic name they may be interested in, and like to go directly to where that may be.

I saw someone mention Bing tags..bing also searches by images etc, which is great.

A search box that we can add to our site would make it so much easier for potential clients to find what they need, rather than search our entire site!!!!! PRETTY PLEASE WITH A HUGGGEEEEEEE CHERRY ON TOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE, HOW LONG UNTIL I CAN AD A "SEARCH BOX"? THIS IS SO IMPORTANT TO MY SITE AND I'M REALLY SURPRISED IT'S NOT THERE ALREADY. HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO WAIT?
