A free Wix URL is always in the format  www.wix.com/username/documentname.

To change your own domain please go into the Wix Domain Manager (My Account > Manage Premium > Domains) and remove your old domain and then add the new domain again under your preferred connection method or purchase a domain.

Did that and done that... but still the same results... I upgraded to Premium and it still shows www.wix.com/username/documentname... I have my own domain... did the pointing and called my registrar, followed every step on everything and I just wasted 4 days of figuring it out, still the same result...

Also, when I use DNS if I type my domain name without www the IP address is correct but when I type it with the www it comes out different... IF YOU GUYS WILL SEND ME ANOTHER LINK ON HOW TO DO IT, I WILL CANCEL YOUR SERVICE AND I WILL NOT DO ANYMORE DESIGNS USING YOUR SYSTEM... I TRIED EVERYTHING ON YOUR SUPPORT PAGE... I JUST HOPE THAT YOU GUYS HAVE A CALL CENTER AND SPEAK TO A REAL PERSON RATHER THAN TYPING!!!

Please send me your username and document name attached to your Wix account. As our Wix representative informed you the other day, we need to see your account in order to assist you with resolving this problem.

We are awaiting your reply with the proper information. 

Does this mean that if you have the free website, you can't change it aswel? If so I may well change providers as that's not fair

For free Users: The format of the free Wix site URL is www.wix.com/UserName/DocName.
You can find your URL simply by clicking on Settings inside your editor > General. You will find your URL under Site Address.

You are free to change your user name and/or document name.

But you would not be able to remove the "wix.com" portion on a free account.  That is the benefit of upgrading to a premium account, you can connect to your own domain (i.e. yourdomain.com)

In order to upgrade your document , please go to "My Account" -> roll over the document you want to upgrade -> click on "upgrade".

Hi i have just signed up to the free account but am having problems with  the url name. when i type in my prefered url name it says available then if i type in another to check its availability and go back to the first one i type in it says the username already exists.. i dont understand why because i was  given the name i prefered when i first typed it in. please help, i'm quite new to this.

Please note when changing your username you are unable to go back to a previous username you had used before.

Could you tell me why it is that i cannot use a previous username? 

Also once i have gone live with the free wix website is it possible to edit the website?

if i was to upgrade to a premium account would i be able to get a more suitable username?

1. We don't allow old usernames because this can cause problems with the old sites that used those usernames.

2. Yes you will always be able to edit and update your site.

3. If you upgrade to a premium account you will be able to attach your own domain name.

sorry if this is a anoying question but if i upgrade to premium do you supply the domain and i choose what its called or do i need to have the domain before from another provider?

Wix does not sell domain names. We recommend purchasing from networksolutions.com (It is a large hosting company).

In order to complete the process ask your hosting company to point it to Wix server (DNS: 216.139.213.144) - When doing that, when entering your domain it will show your Wix document.

after purchase Premium i would like to change my domain name, can I...?

You can indeed, you manage which domain connects to which site through the manage premium area found on the My Account page.

you should change the default web address like instead of www.wix.com/person/website have something like www.website.wix.com

I am experiencing the same problem with the wix name still in my url. i have published my site online and it does com up with my domain name, but it also still shows up with the wix.com url. when i type my site into a search engine it brings up the wix site opposed to my domain name. your assistance would greatly be appreciated with this issue.

Once you upgrade your website and give it your own domain, you must wait until Google re-crawls the site for these changes to appear.

Once Google re-crawls your site, the free Wix URL will be removed and your domain name will appear.

HI I have tried everything to change the url listed on the web. It has broaught my partners user name into the public domain and i urgently need to edit the user name out. I have deleted the doc so when url is clicked it doesn't go to the website built in wix but remaned before deleting. All i want to do is edit the url so it takes her name out. PLease give clear step by step instructions on how to do this. Or try to help

I can see that you have cancelled your package. Please note that as long as you do not transfer your document to your own domain, your url will be the free Wix url which contains your username and document name. In order to connect your document to a Domain you will have to upgrade to one of our premium packages.
