4. When you finish your creation please Click "Save".
5. When you want to publish it press "Publish" > "Embed" > "copy" paste the code where you
want it and you're done!

Welcome to a Studio Scarab website. The current project showcase is Carpe Noctem, a supernatural thriller screenplay based on an original story by award winning sci-fi, comics and fantasy illustrator Monte Moore.
The screenplay was a written by Monte Moore, screenwriter for "Do Not Disturb" a horror feature currently in production, and Joe Vetromile, a seasoned screenwriter with 20 years experience.
This site will feature story excerpts, concept imagery as well as some art from the story.

EXT. WOODS - NIGHT
MARK MATHEWS is running through the woods severely out of breath, as low lying tree limbs tear at his clothes and face as he runs. Mark is Caucasian, has short light
brown hair, Buddy Holly style glasses and a chaos symbol pendant jingles around his neck. As he is running he notices he has no shoes, and is only wearing jeans and a T-shirt.
Mark trips and falls flat on his face from the uneven
terrain. As he pauses to catch his breath before getting
up, a dark robed figure appears before him.
The figure's face is concealed within the hood, and his
hands are not visible in the folds of the cloak.
ROBED FIGURE
Mark? What are you running from?
MARK
(out of breath)
Who...who are you?
I asked you a question, don't you know
it's rude to answer a question, with another question?
Mark picks himself up off the ground, and takes a
step back.
Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude.
That's better, now why don't we sit and talk a bit, get to know one another. Mark looks to his right, he notices a park bench is now almost right next to him.
Where did that come from?
It was always there, Mark. Now please, sit.
Mark and the figure sit down.
Where are my shoes?
Mark, now please pay attention, we need
to discuss a few things.
You're awfully bossy, this is my dream,
and I'll decide what we talk about.
Oh really, you think you're in charge do you?
Yes.
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but if this
was a dream, you could just make yourself
wake up couldn't you?
Maybe I don't want to.
Yes, I can see why you wouldn't, you're
actually getting a good nights sleep,
and this dream isn't as bad as you normally have.
How? How would you know about my
nightmares?
I know things, Mark. Like how last night
you dreamt your face melted off into your
blender, and you were revolted by the
fact you had a strong desire to drink it.
How could you know that?
Lets not dwell on that for the moment,
lets talk about the book.
What book?
A book is in the robed figure's boney, ghastly hands.
My book. It's a very special book, Mark.
What's so special about it?
Well for one thing, it has your name
MARKED down in it.
So.
So, I want you to open it.
No thanks, not interested.
It's not a request, Mark!
Mark looks down, a pistol is in his hand.
What the...?
The robed figure leans close to Mark.
(whispering)
I'm coming for you Mark. I'm almost home.
Mark aims the gun up to the face of the cloak, and with
his other hand he throws back the cowl.
Mark is stunned to see his himself staring back at him
from the now uncloaked figure.
The robed Mark figure reaches up, pulls the gun tight to his
forehead and pulls the trigger...BAM!!!
Main Characters:
Mark Mathews - Owner of Carpe Noctem Bookstore.
Freddy King - Mark's neighbor and slacker friend.
Rebecca "Harmony" Ward - Police Detective and love
interest.
Buzz - Mark's daily delivery driver and father figure.
Maria - Mark's wicca Aunt.
Secondary Characters: The Reverend and the
Psychologist
When his mother dies, Mark Mathews inherits a Christian bookstore called The Carpenter, which he converts in to an occult bookstore named Carpe Noctem...Latin for "Seize the Night". Mark's life is difficult enough, as he battles his own obsessive compulsions that govern his daily life, including agoraphobia which makes him a virtual prisoner in his own shop.
Mark's nightly dreams turn to sadistic nightmares when he comes into possession of a unique and cryptic book. A book that is covered with ancient writings, is sealed ... and has no visible means to open it.
Through research Mark discovers that the book might have been authored by a Lucifer himself or may even contain the soul of a demon. Mark does not buy into these belief's, and learns a key isnt needed to release its prisoner. If the folklore is to be believed, all thats needed to open the book, is for the owner of the book to speak the demons name ...and so the game begins. A game of virtual chess, played out in Mark's nightmares, with a robed figure who shares the same face with Mark.
The nightmares worsen until finally the demon himself visits Mark in his dreams and tricks him into opening it. Mark feels he's been duped when the book appears to be empty, and so he sells it as a journal and thinks nothing more of it.
Mark's life turns into a downward spiral when he thinks he seeing signs from Revelations coming to life. His psychiatrist says Mark's psychosis is getting worse, and wants him to undergo hypnotherapy, but Mark suspects something more real and sinister. And so he begins to try and solve the biggest mystery of his life, with the help of his wacky slacker neighbor Freddy, Buzz the father figure delivery driver and would-be girlfriend Harmony, who happens to be a police detective. Thus the battle for Mark's body and soul begins, and the demon who walks in Mark's sleep will do anything including destroying his new vessel, to stay outside the book that was once his supernatural cage.
Meanwhile, a string of ritualistic bloody murders have plagued the town and it seems that each night Mark sleeps, he awakes the next morning tired and sometimes bloody.
Mark finally believes it's not mere sleepwalking, and slowly accepts his involvement...could he be a sadistic killer? His life becomes a whirlwind of exhaustion, mystery and pain, as he dare not fall asleep, for fear of unleashing the horrors inside him, but eventually has no choice but to try and face his inner demon. Is Mark involved in stopping the arrival of Lucifer and the End Times here on Earth, or is he seeing signs where there are none, and these are just the final threads of his sanity breaking away?
