Frederik Støvring Olsen was born in Denmark in 1981. He graduated from The Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen in trumpet performance in 2007 and subsequently focused his studies on conducting, studying with Kirk Trevor privately and in workshops.
In 2009 he entered the conducting class at The Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, now studying with Giordano Bellincampi and Michael Schønwandt. As a part of this intense program he works with almost all major professional orchestras in Denmark.
Since 2008 Olsen has been Music Director and Conductor of the Sankt Annæ Youth Symphony Orchestra. In just a short period, Olsen has transformed the SASO into one of the leading youth orchestras in Denmark. The orchestra and Olsen have received much acclaim for unusual repertoire including Gershwin, Kallinikov and championing the music of Danish composer Carl Nielsen. Olsen has lead the orchestra on several European tours one, most recently in March 2011 to the Czech Republic as an invited orchestra to the Young Prague Spring Festival. The orchestra was awarded a gold medal for its' performance of Dvorak's "New World" symphony.
With a passion for choral church music, he co-founded Pro Musica Copenhagen in 2004. With this group he has performed much of the major choral works including requiems by Mozart, Faure, Durufle and works by Leonard Bernstein and other contemporary composers.
In the summer of 2011 Olsen had his US performance debut as Assistant Conductor with the Missouri Symphony Orchestra (USA) during the annual "Hot Summer Night's Festival".
