LATEST NEWS : The Gaddy & Smudger Show !
Stourbridge Youth 5 Walsall Wood Youth 1
Firstly my apologies for not doing a feature on last weeks game against AFC Wulfrunians . We lost 4-2 and went crashing out of the Birmingham County Cup to a very good side. It wasn't because we lost I simply didn't have any spare time to do it. Well done to John Purdy’s men and good luck in the next round.
We decided to make changes for tonights game bringing in Tom Gadd, on the left wing, James Hanson holding midfield, James Moore left back, and centre half Ryan Woolacote who was returning from injury. These players were long over due a start and it also sends out the message that no position is a done deal. This game was the league cup fixture a trophy we intend to defend and don't want to give back.
We started steady and forward Richard Smudger Smith scored the first after a great ball by full back Alex Smith, poking pass the keeper. That was followed by the best move of the game when Tom Gadd started it off and finished it. Winger Adam Ward looped a pass into him and Gaddy made no mistake with a side foot volley. Gaddy was then at the heart of the next goal by getting down the line and delivering a excellent cross for Rich Smith to smash in from close range. It was looking like a rout when Rich Smith headed home the fourth after another good supply from Alex Smith. 4 nil and looking comfortable but Walsall Woods front line were livery when in possession and pulled a goal back just before the half time whistle. 4-1 at half time and a half decent performance sets up a showcase for second .
The showcase never really came and we huffed and puffed in front of goal but Rich Smith managed another after hitting the bar and bouncing back down, then being turned in by their defender but me and Rich are positive it had already crossed the line! What defender wants to ever claim a own goal. The game finished 5-1 and so a god job was done. Gaddy continued to cause problems on the wing all game and topped that with a goal so he's the Man Of The Match. A very close second would be James Hanson he was excellent breaking up the play and we cant forget Smudger also.
