Wix Goes “Beyond Responsive” Design with New Mobile Solution Allowing Users to Easily Perfect Their Websites for Smartphones

Mobile

With powerful design capabilities Wix users can go beyond adapting their websites for mobile browsing, by customizing their mobile websites to fully fit their vision

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, October 2, 2013 – Wix (http://www.wix.com), the popular HTML5 web-development platform today rolled out a new mobile solution for its 38 million registered users worldwide. The Wix platform automatically converts all of a website’s design, content, integrated Apps and eCommerce capabilities into a mobile optimized version, after which the user can customize and fine tune it through a user friendly, WYSIWYG mobile editor. The Editor enables Wix users to manipulate their mobile websites – change design, hide content, scale and move features – while leaving the full-size desktop version of their website unchanged.

The ability to create an optimized and personalized mobile experience is in-line with what users have come to expect from the Wix website creation environment – powerful functionalities, ease of use and the freedom to create beautiful designs that match their vision and needs. The result is more than simple responsive design, it’s a “Beyond Responsive” mobile solution. By allowing users to customize their mobile sites to create a unique experience, they are able to capitalize on the constant growth in mobile traffic and the range of actions that people take on their smartphones. With 56%* of U.S. adults owning smartphone and nearly 25%** of mobile users having made a purchase from their mobile phones, the need for customized solutions for mobile is strategically significant.

“There are many responsive design solutions out there that work in blocks, scaling and rearranging components based on screen size. Wix, however, is built on flexible layers so we set out to create an infinitely flexible and customizable mobile offering to match and augment the Wix platform,” said Avishai Abrahami, Wix co-founder and CEO. “Our goal has always been to put the power of the web into the hands of our users by providing tools to create and manage a professional and comprehensive online presence. The new mobile solution is the latest addition to the Wix suite, allowing SMBs, entrepreneurs and creative professionals to compete effectively however the market evolves.”

The Wix mobile offering adheres to critical web and mobile best practices including a single URL structure across versions, a single source code, and a single source of content. Not only are these best practices great for SEO, they also make it easy for Wix users to maintain and manage their web presence, desktop to mobile, from a single location. The new mobile solution also ensures that when users update their desktop site version, the mobile site is automatically updated as well.
