Sain Tathan Action Group (S.T.A.G.) - representing Boverton, Llanmaes, Llantwit Major and St. Athan
The Defence Training College & Aerospace Business Park
website
STAG does support the Defence Training Academy in principle. However, we feel that the current design does not include sufficient consideration for the communities who live in and around the area involved.
Although the planning applications for both developments have been approved (in outline form only), numerous factors such as funding (public & private), political policy, Compulsory Purchase Orders and full planning permission still need to be resolved before a spade can break the ground.
A public inquiry into the CPOs is scheduled for 12 January 2010.
What you really need to know about......
The Northern Access Road which slices through a green field site from the Llantwit bypass to Picketston.
The Defence Training Academy which is not limited within the current base perimeter and requires the use of additional green field space.
The Aerospace Business Park which is economically unviable and creates the need to use land outside the wire.
The engine testing facility which directs noise from its operations directly towards Boverton and Llantwit Major.
The firing range located 300m away from housing will result in excessive noise levels for Llanmaes, Picketston & Eglwys Brewis.
The Biomass Energy Centre which is 30m tall and will disperse exhaust fumes across much of the locality, depending upon wind direction.
The Service Family Accommodation which will occupy greenfield sites and create the potential for "infill" development along the NAR.
The main access gate which is located 95m from housing and will bring significant traffic levels into Eglwys Brewis.
The construction period which is expected to last 5 years, use routes through St. Athan village & Eglwys Brewis and could go on until 2028.

What do I need to know?
Many local residents have not looked into the numerous aspects of the proposed development and the effects it will have on our homes and lives, on the assumption that all will be the same as when RAF St. Athan was operating at full capacity. This is not the case.
