On this site you will be able to find out all the information you may need about rugby in St Pauls
St. Pauls earned a terrific win today against a talented Mount Temple side in the 2nd Round of the JCT Cup at Clontarf Rugby Grounds. Led by Captain Shane Byrne, St. Pauls played a dominating game in the breakdown area while executing clinical tries by Daniel Chan, Adam Holohan & a brace of tries by Darragh Sweeney.
St. Pauls started brightly, scoring a well-worked try in the corner after only five minutes. A very difficult conversion was narrowly missed by Kevin McDonnell. After Mount Temple replied later in the half with a brilliantly-worked try in the opposite corner, St. Pauls dug deep to find another score before half-time, leading 12 5. St. Pauls began the second half well, holding their defensive line against persistent attack by Mount Temple. Mid-way through the second half, St. Pauls discipline in defence turned over a ruck in mid-field, before being spread to inside-centre Darragh Sweeney to weave his way between numerous defenders to secure a stronger lead. Mount Temple replied with a breakaway try of their own but five minutes later, Sweeney struck again, extending St. Pauls lead to 26 10.
Mount Temple were rewarded for continuous attacking with St. Pauls finally yielding a second try late in the second half to bring the scores to 26 17. The game ended with St. Pauls resolutely defending their defensive line in mid-field.
Congratulations to all the players & squad members, coaches and physio.
