YEAR 5 SPACE FACTS!
We have been learning about the Earth, moon and sun. We worked out that if the Earth was scaled down to 13mm in
diameter then the moon would be 3.5mm and the sun would be 140cm in diameter. At this scale the Earth and moon would be 40cm apart and the sun would be 150 meters away from the Earth! We
measured this out on the
playground.
We also learnt the order of the planets and a sentence to help us remember: This-Very-Easy-Method-Just-Speeds-Up-Naming-Planets! Can you think of all the planet's names from this sentence?
RECEPTION NEWS
Last week the children in the reception classes had a huge surprise to find Sleeping Beauty asleep in the Castle role-play area. The children used their phonic knowledge to write letters to the handsome prince asking him to come and rescue her. On Friday the handsome prince came galloping through the classroom on his (hobby) horse and woke Sleeping Beauty from her spell.
This week the children have been learning the story of Rapunzel. The children have been
measuring the tower that Rapunzel lived in using non-standard measures. We have been looking at tall and short objects and ordering according to size.
The children have also cooked some long cheese straws, used long string for printing and designed and made shields.
Please could you save any old boxes, cartons, bottle tops, etc, for us to use for junk modelling. There will be a box outside the reception classrooms to collect items.
Thank you.
