The purpose of Delta Phi Omega shall be to foster unity among South Asian women, build community awareness, and gain a greater understanding of oneself and others. The sorority aspires to instill leadership traits, excel in all academic endeavors, to encourage an active relationship between the sorority and its respective university, and shall do so with the utmost compassion, dignity, and fortitude.
The Sisters of Delta Phi Omega strongly believe that a quality education is the key to success, and therefore, should not be taken from any child. Because of this, we have chosen children's literacy and education as our philanthropy. We will focus on promoting education in various ways to help children build a strong foundation for a solid future. We hope to influence not only the OU community, but several communities around the globe as well. Our desire will be reached through participation in reading programs, tutoring, mentoring, and several fundraising events. The sisters of Delta Phi Omega promise that no child will be deprived of this, regardless of race, color, creed, ethnicity, or financial, social, and religious standing.
CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty that places special focus on working alongside poor women because, equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty. Women are at the heart of CARE's community-based efforts to improve basic education, prevent the spread of HIV, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources. CARE also delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters, and helps people rebuild their lives.
Since inception the goal of Pratham has been to ensure that "every child is in school...and is learning well". Over a 9 year period Pratham has reached out to a million children. An accelerated learning method, in which an unlettered child starts reading and computing basic mathematics in 3 weeks, has been in use since late 2002 and has taught over 160,000 children since then to become literate.
Asha for Education is a secular organization dedicated to change in India by focusing on basic education in the belief that education is a critical requisite for socio-economic change. In keeping with this focus, volunteers are involved with and support projects that are secular and have an education-related component to them.
Nine women created the Theta Chapter of Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. Because of them and their hard work and determination, we are proud to finally be a part of such an extraordinary organization that promotes sisterhood, honesty, respect, loyalty, and friendship. The nine founding mothers of Theta Chapter have created a bond of true sisterhood. In such a short period of time, each and every one of us has taken advantage of the opportunity to get to know the other inside and out. We know of every triumph and defeat, of every happy and sad moment.
In the summer of 2002, those nine South Asian women came together in hopes of bringing Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. to the University of Oklahoma. On September 14, 2002 these hopes became a reality. Although the process was challenging and even frustrating at times, it gives us great pleasure to finally say that we are a part of this great sisterhood. The relationships we have formed and will continue to form hold a special place in our hearts. We have been warmly welcomed to the Delta Phi Omega family and to the Greek community at OU. We thank you all for your support, and we promise to uphold the five pillars set by our national founders.
We the sisters of Delta Phi Omega have begun a conquest, which will hold its legacy throughout the future at the University of Oklahoma. We dreamt of creating a South Asian Sorority, we saw our way to obtain it, and we conquered all obstacles in our path.
Our Motto reads: We Dreamt, We Saw, We Conquered. The sisters of Delta Phi Omega truly are Destined to Prevail against all Odds.
