SoapBoxProject aims to give anotherplatform to street art in Sydney. Council policy is pretty strict and art gets painted over quickly. The work is typically transient and only experienced up close by a small number of people. Many works live on through online archives & are accessed by a wider audience... but this can become distant from the experience of a 'passerby' randomly discovering a work in the street. This project brings those images back onto street walls by asking users to share photos of street art on our flickr groupand using them in a series of public projections around Sydney.

The idea is to provide a public displaythat's not an Ad, but something that might provoke thought or interest in the wider community.SoapBoxProject has tried to build a communication platform that can be used by any group in the community to share a message with the wider public, to get people to act or to simply raise awareness of an issue. This is done by using sites like Flickr & Facebook to generate awareness & store content, a free website builder like this one (Wix), & public projections which re-present users content back to the wider public in their urban environment.
