ARTIST STATEMENT
Nothing lasts forever. Except maybe a photograph. Time flies; life is change; beauty is fleeting. I love photography because it allows me to freeze a given moment, to capture beauty mid-flight, and preserve it, if not forever, then at least beyond the actual experience itself.
As a former research scientist with a background in biology, my eye is often drawn to little details in pattern, texture, light and colour. Whether inspired by the natural world or the man-made, my photographs tend to focus on a fraction of the whole, often capturing something likely overlooked by the casual observer. Sometimes my photographs capture literal reality; other times they are more abstract and dreamlike. I allow each subject to inform my senses and help shape my vision of the final image.
My hope for viewers of my photographs is that they will be moved by these images of everyday things, as seen through my eyes, and rediscover the extraordinary beauty that hides in plain sight, all around us, every day.
