"Helping ambitious companies develop, extend, protect and make money from their engineering capabilities"
Fintelis offers interim technology management services for companies looking to grow through effective use of an engineering capability
Whether this means project management of product development and its supporting technology, the presentation of a compelling case to potential investors demonstrating the credibility of a proposal, or a review of competing technologies present in the marketplace, Fintelis helps firms achieve genuine returns on innovative engineering ideas.
We believe that the value of a company is based on its ability to deliver on the promises of new technology. We help you keep those promises.

Stefan Kukula is a chartered engineer with senior level research and development experience, and a calm, confident, clear and lucid approach to innovation based on sound engineering. He has proven skills in building and managing successful product development teams, both in-house and outsourced, both in the UK and overseas.
After six years in Kobe, Japan working for a major Japanese engineering firm developing innovative products for some of the world's most demanding customers including Apple, Sony and Casio, he returned to the UK to work for Dyson. Since then he has put in place the development strategy for a major UK advanced material company, and led product development at a major manufacturer of electronic safety equipment, including establishing an Indian subsidiary to provide cost effective embedded software.
"It's not very 'innovative' if it doesn't make a return for the people who invested effort, time and money in it. It may be very 'British,' but it's not 'innovation'."
A well known UK manufacturer of home appliances needed a new fan to provide a step change in performance for compact vacuum cleaner motors. Conventional assemblies fell apart at the speeds required to provide the required airflow. The development team spent an afternoon at a local scrapyard and came out with the first prototype - based on a motorcycle turbocharger. The current version is now in a range of new products, and has opened up completely new markets.
The inventor of a new advanced material had a target market, which required significant cash to clear the regulatory hurdles. Fintelis identified a suitable licencee for a "trailblazer application," where the barriers to entry were significantly lower, enabling the company to demonstrate the technology worked, generate a revenue, and become much more attractive to investors willing to finance entry into the eventual target market.
A US factory manufacturing military body armour was convinced that their technology advantage lay in the energy absorbance of the material, but could not turn this into profit. A review of competitive advantages showed that small increases in energy absorbance were irrelevant. However, their technique did enable rapid changes of shape for little extra cost, and allowed them to offer a wider range of sizes, especially useful when there are women in front line positions. A near monoploy was achieved within a year.
A factory specializing in CNC machining of hard materials was not realizing the projected return on their new capital equipment. A structured examination showed that the use of several different systems, and a lack of programming skills, was creating a bottleneck, and idle time for expensive machinery. A limited further spend in computer aided design and manufacture (CAD/CAM) software allowed jobs to be routed to whichever machine was free, without having to rely on staff availability. They achieved their projected return.

Here are some simple truths that have inspired us
I make progress by having people around who are smarter than I am - and listening to them. And I assume that everyone is smarter about something than I am.

Change is no modern invention. It is as old as time and as unlikely to disappear. It has always to be counted on as of the essence of human experience.
James Rowland Angell
Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all
