History of the Battle of Telford Depot and Limestone Station

One regiment of troops (One Hundredth Ohio) went to Jonesboro on the cars 5 September, 1863, and several hundred ventured up to Carter's and demanded the surrender of the fort. The next day Major Stringfield was ordered to take 200 of his men and a battalion of cavalry (McLin) under Captain D. D. Anderson, and reconnoitre the position of the enemy. He took this force to Jonesboro and below. On 7 September General A. E. Jackson came up with the balance of the Sixty-ninth North Carolina, the Fourth Kentucky Cavalry and Sixteenth Georgia Cavalry and Borrough's Battery, and learning that the enemy were fortifying in and around the old limestone blockhouse and a stone mansion near by the Telford Depot, the Sixty-ninth was ordered up by General Jackson and at 3:00 a. m. on the 8th, we drove them from Telford's depot to Limestone, where they made a determined stand, evidently being handled by some veteran officers. Closing in upon them on all sides, we forced them to surrender with a loss of 20 killed, 30 wounded and 314 prisoners, with 400 splendid small arms. Our loss was six killed and fifteen wounded. Our regiment was immediately armed with the guns here captured (Enfield rifles). The enemy were the One Hundredth Ohio Regiment (Infantry) and were a fine looking body of men.

From Johnson City: Highway 67 to State Route 81 South to Highway 107 west 1/2 mile on right. From Jonesborough: State route 81 south to Highway 107 west 1/2 mile on right. From Greeneville: Highway 107 East 25 miles on left.

Activities/Amenities & Registration Form plus Event Rules

Activities & Amenities:

A School Day on Friday--Reenactors and Living Historians Needed for this day to fill various stations! There will be a meal provided on Friday for all participants after school day ends.

Activities include Living histories, living history village, and battles throughout the weekend, Church Services, and entertainment on Saturday night.

Reenactor Breakfast on Sunday, Hay, wood ,water, furnished along with restroom facilities.

Rev. Rick Morrell has volunteered to be the event Chaplain and conduct Sunday Morning services.

Schedule coming in the near future.

Registration $5 until October 1 2012, after that an $8 walk-on fee will be charged. Artillery limited to four mountain howitzers of which two positions are already filled.

A portion of proceeds will be donated to local charities.

Leave the Reenactor Politics at the Gate and let's have a great weekend!

Authentic theater impressions, US and CSA dismounted cavalry, infantry, artillery, medical corps and civilians are welcome and needed for the Event.

UNIFORMS & ACCOUTERMENTS & equipment shall be appropriate for a 1862-1863 impression.

AGE LIMIT-

Youth are encouraged to participate in camp activities. Battlefield participants must be 14 years old to carry a weapon or act as flag bearers ,participants who are 10 or older may portray musicians or couriers. A parent or guardian's written consent and statement of liability must be signed.

WEAPONS, INFANTRY-ramrods can be carried on the battlefield but shall not be drawn.

PISTOLS-Officers and Ncos in Infantry are allowed to carry-No Wonder-Wads are allowed in revolvers.

UNAUTHORIZED DISCHARGE OF WEAPONS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

AMMUNITION -powder will only be carried in the form of properly rolled cartridges. Penny wrappers, heavy bond paper, plastics, staples, or tape will not be allowed for rolled cartridges. No CCI Caps will be allowed.

EDGED WEAPONS -knives will be of the period and secured in a period sheath.

CAMPS -military and civilian shall be laid at the direction of Field Commanders in assigned areas.

VEHICLE ACCESS -vehicles shall be parked in designated areas out of sight of the battlefield and restricted from the camp and battlefield at times designated by the Field commanders. All vehicles must be removed from the battlefield/camp area BEFORE 8:00 AM on Saturday.
