The N.Y.S.E. is an after-school music
program for students to study violin,
viola, cello and bass. Students in 6th
through 12th grade participate in
rehearsals and perform in concerts.
The N.Y.S.E. is a fun and exciting way
to learn a stringed instrument!

The Beginning Ensemble class is for students who have little or no experience on the violin, viola or cello. Beginning Ensemble will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:45 - 3:30 P.M.
Students will start with the basics of the instrument and will work towards the first concert. Fundamentals such as bow technique, left hand technique, posture and music reading will be studied in class.
The Intermediate Ensemble class meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:45 - 5:30 P.M. This class is for students who have at least one school - year of experience on a string instrument.
The Intermediate Ensemble will continue to work and refine the skills that they learned in the Beginning Ensemble class. The Intermediate Ensemble performs at the regular N.Y.S.E. concerts, and at Paramount's Great America Celebration of Music!
The Advanced Ensemble meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45 - 4:30 p.m. This class is for students who have at least 2 school - years of experience or were in the Advanced Ensemble last year.
The Advanced Ensemble is the top performing group of N.Y.S.E. and works on advanced technique and challenging music. The Advanced Ensemble performs at the regular N.Y.S.E. concerts, the California Music Educators Association Music Festival, and at Paramount's Great America Celebration of Music!

In order to cover the operating costs of the N.Y.S.E., a donation is requested to be part of an ensemble. This donation is spent on music, clinicians, educational materials, and the director's salary.
No student will be denied participation due to financial need. Full and partial scholarships are available to any student based on financial necessity.
For all ensembles the donation cost is $16 a week, payable the first class of each month.
Each month a reminder of the donation amount for that month will be emailed. Checks are payable to the Novato Youth String Ensemble or NYSE.
