John McClellan was someone I knew of via the media, now through Sherry Laymon's book, Fearless. I can say I truly feel I know the man, his politics, and the foundation an Arkansas childhood provided. If you are a follower of Arkansas politics, Fearless is a must read. Ms Laymon has a wonderful way of telling his story in a gripping way, all the while providing the facts and references behind the story. I feel as if I just got a great dose of Arkansas political history in these 300+ pages, but unlike my "school boy days," I enjoyed every minute of it. If you want to meet the man that took on the Mafia, McCarthyism, and Hoffa, plus pretty much helped the Kennedys come to power, and THEN had to almost single handedly check their power once there, then read this book. McClellan is still the youngest person to pass the Bar and become an attorney in the US. A great politician with much personal loss in his life.
I am now reading Laymon's earlier work Pfeiffer Country.
