Shellyza Murji, is a graduate of the University of British Columbia in Social Work and is currently pursuing her MSW at the University of Calgary. Her research interests include dance therapy, international adoptions and investigating social work practice within non-governmental organizations. Her approach to clinical social work practice at the international level is an anti-oppressive, culturally competent approach.
Shellyza's practicum placements have been in a variety of settings and across diverse populations; starting with CUPS One World Society, The Alberta Childrens Hospital, Rutland Middle School, and The Bridge Youth and Family Services, ending more recently with a placement at Shiamaks Victory Arts Foundation in Mumbai, India.
On a personal level, Shellyza is a dancer with a renowned international dance institute and has been training since a young age. Her other interests include writing play scripts and travelling and living in various destinations.
Her hope is to merge her academic pursuits with her love for dance by incorporating dance therapy into her social practice. She is a firm believer and advocate for the body-mind-soul connection.
Shellyza is born and raised in Calgary and is fortunate to have the support of a loving family and a network of caring friends.
