My mission is to explore new, theatrical methods which help build a stronger understanding and acceptance between people. As an actor, I want to create humor, excitement and purpose for myself and audiences alike. To me, the collective process involved in creating a performance is more important than the final product. I would like to apply elements of this process to other organizations and work environments.

About

I am a senior at the University of Maryland – Baltimore County pursuing a B.A. in Theatre (acting) and Media Communication Studies. During my time at UMBC, I held several different positions in and out of the theatre. I have acted in three productions, - The Vagina Monologues, Playing Pericles, and The Laramie Project. In addition, I directed the one-act For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls (taken from Durang Durang), a comedic parody of The Glass Menagerie . As an active member in Phi Mu Fraternity for Women, I am currently serving my second term as the Sisterhood Development Chair. This puts me in charge of organizing a two-day retreat and various sisterhood events, but more importantly I am responsible for mediating any disagreements within the chapter. Over the summer of 2011, I interned with Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, where I assembled and organized much of the media content used by the Global Events Team. With my interests divided between two disciplines, I am seeking a career in television production that will blend my passion for theatre with my developed understanding of TV as a highly-recognized medium in our culture.

The Laramie Project

This is a production I have been working on this play since the beginning of September with various members of the UMBC Department of Theatre. The story, written by Moises Kaufmen and members of the Tectonic Theatre Project, is a compilation of interviews with people involved in the 1998 controversy surrounding the murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay university student. The past three months have been so much fun and I am happy to have established new friendships and interactions amongst such a wide variety of personalities.
