Here at Sandhills Elementary school we are committed to GOING GREEN!!
Our students, faculty, and staff practice the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
We are reducing the amount of trash our school produces everyday by piloting using reusable cafeteria trays
We reuse many items that would be thrown away to create projects in our classrooms
We recycle many items here at SES: Paper, Aluminum Cans, Cardboard, and Magazines
Indoor Air Quality
This school year we are taking steps to ensure that our students have clean air in the classroom. To improve SES indoor air quality we will have plants in every classroom. The plants will absorb Carbon Dioxide and help to clean the air we breathe!
Recycling at Home...
Each month we collect a different recyclable that the students can bring in from home. Here is a list of what we have collected so far.

Each Friday these Green Kids go around to each classroom and collect our recycled paper
We have already recycled 1,000 lbs of paper this year!!!
WAY TO GO
To learn more about Going Green you can visit DHEC recycling .
On May 20th 150 students and teachers participated in The Great American Cleanup. These green kids picked up litter around our school grounds.
We picked up 10 bags of trash!!
This is 70 bags less than last years cleanup, which means our school has become litter conscience.
Thanks to all who helped to beautify our school community.
Ms. Reese's 4th graders have planted a Carolina Fence Garden. SES received a $2,500 grant from Palmetto Pride to grow the garden. This garden is located along side the library. The garden contains plants that are indigenous to South Carolina, like the Yellow Jasmine. These plants will attract our state bird, the Carolina Wren, and our state butterfly, the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. The Carolina Fence Garden has beautified our SES environment.
