WINNERS OF THE FALL 2010 THREADS SENIOR COLLECTION FASHION SHOW:
Emily Baker
Hometown: Mooresville, NC
Email: eabaker4_ncsu.edu
Line: Mimi
Emily has always had a strong love for fashion. Her style consists of combining trendy and timeless pieces together to create a unique and personal look. “Mimi” began as a collection that was focused around the use of faux fur. As the line progressed, the fabrications became more luxurious and the silhouettes showcased a more classic style. Emily soon realized she was subconsciously channeling her great grandmother, Mimi Baker, whom she is often compared to. As Emily’s sketches became more detailed her memories of wearing her great grandmother’s fur to special occasions helped bring her designs to life. Mrs. Baker was a very elegant and fashion conscious lady. “Mimi” was designed and created to appeal to women with these same qualities.

Inspired by life and finally free of all apprehensions, I chose to simply do what i love--create. I embraced my desire to design as a child. I designed my own costumes, clothing and accessories.
I used my older sister as my Barbie, designing her prom and cotillion gowns. Upon entering college I lost the desire for design out of fear that it would not get me where I wanted to be in life. But now with the full support of my family and loved ones, I’m convinced that what I desire from life is more than attainable. Being a creator, a painter, a designer and a visionary i draw from my experiences, I paint from my emotions, and I design from my travels, observations and fantasies. Being a dreamer and a passionate person allows my designs to be innovative as I put a lot of myself into all of my creations. My Senior Show Case combines two opposing themes, the modesty I observed from women I’ve seen Egypt to Dubai to Soho to Beverly Hills, back to Harlem. I have taken a modern twist on the Burqua and Hijab while using feminine silhouettes and patterns. My fabrics are digitally printed and a reflection of my own creativity. Using my senior showcase portfolio as my launching pad, i plan to take off upon graduating and be a free, novel designer
Natalie Drennon

Growing up as an only child, I found myself always trying to entertain my personal creative interests with fun, exciting, and unique activities that would keep me occupied for hours on end, all of which involved some sort of artsy, creative fun, ranging from simple art and sculpting classes to trying on anything and everything in my closet to create some sort of exotic outfit. My love for fashion and expressing my individuality sprouted late into my high school and early college career where music, fashion, traveling, and life itself influenced my style change, expressing my absolute love for anything and everything eclectic, trendy, and unique. Known for my edgy, and sometimes creatively chaotic style, I wanted to create a senior collection that expressed me and only me. Based on the trendy militant looks of the ready-to-wear labels Burberry and Rag and Bone, I wanted to create beautiful, yet edgy looks that mixed both masculine and feminine aesthetics such as structured army jackets with form-fitted draped dresses to accentuate a female's body while bringing my own 'umph' into the outfits. Also inspired by Roman and Grecian draping methods, I have learned to drape all sorts of garments, most of which involved hours of hand sewing and hand embellishments throughout the line. With pops of color among muted hues of black, white, and camel, I intend on showcasing a line that is sure to grab the attention of all.

She was born in North Carolina and has lived here nearly her entire life, except for when she interned in Chicago in the summer of 2009. Sydney Forbes
Hometown: Clayton, NC
Email: seforbes_ncsu.edu
My interests include drawing, reading, animals, traveling, things that scare me, and taking pictures of my cats. I find inspiration in vintage pieces, things that are well tailored to the body, and colors - usually yellow, which is my favorite. My collection consists of cocktail dresses influenced by the character Miss Scarlet from the board game Clue. She's typically portrayed as a cunning young woman or a femme fatale. My dresses are perfect for the girl who needs something to wear to a high society dinner party, where she may or may not commit a murder. Sadly, no yellow is involved.

I am inspired by anything vintage, color, knits, and mixed media. My collection is a mix of vintage lingerie inspired pieces and handmade crocheted winter accessories. I like to experiment with yarn and gauge to create texture in my crocheted pieces. I’m strongly influenced by European street fashion, and would love the opportunity to travel more internationally.
Brawleigh-Alexander O. Graham
Hometown: Lumberton, NC
Email: brawleighalexander_gmail.com
Brawleigh-Alexander did his first painting as a young boy, using the gardens and wildlife of his grandparent's small farm as his first inspirations. With age his abilities blossomed and shaped him into an artist, but then further as a creator; being enchanted by even the most unnoticed details he developed an inherent aesthetic wisdom. Being a romantic, he developed the life of his collection through the mélange of gothic architecture, crystal chandeliers and antique porcelain, as well as the eighteenth century late baroque style he observed from his summer spent in Paris. Along with these elements, there lies dark heaviness in his collection to evoke the senses which contrive the foreboding element of evening chic, where woman's violent femininity reside.

Wing is greatly interested in working on patternmaking and creating well constructed garments, and also has a passion in Womenswear from intimates to outerwear. She likes to design garments that are wearable on a daily basis-casual yet dressy, and have potential to mix and match. Sleek, clean, and sophisticated are her design emphasis and her muse is influence by modernism and minimalism. Her senior collection was enthused from the clothing concepts of ancient Greece and Rome, by adopting their drapes, warps, fastenings, as well as connecting modernism and femininity into the line to present a mix & match, ready to wear look. Her goals after December 2010 graduation will be working as a Technical Designer in a Ready-To-Wear company, and launch her own label eventually.

Interests range from biking around town, thrift store shopping, designing prints, bikram yoga, dancing, refashioning, and attempting to live a balanced yet fun lifestyle! Deeply inspired by everything she takes in from the world, Kat chooses to focus on her one true love, her kitty Mickey. After ten months of loneliness from Mickey running away, once Mickey Kitty returned, Kat found love and channeled the energy into creating a collection line dedicated to her cat. All fabric digitally printed was developed from pictures of Mickey Kitty. The other fabric used for the collection is a combination of thrift store findings that have been refashioned, nonwovens, and bedsheets that have been overdyed by hand. In the past Kat has participated in both Senior Thread preshows of Fall 2009 and Spring 2010, Spring 2009 AATS fashion show, Howl for Haiti, and Boston University's Haute for Haiti fashion show.
