Title:
A graduating senior in May, Keani is making her fashion line debut on the Threads runway. Her line of resort wear was inspired by her Polynesian culture of the Hawaiian Islands. Other inspirations for her line were Diors RTW Spring 2011 collection, Hawaiian prints, and Polynesian crafts. Her collection consists of dresses and rompers made with bold comfortable fabrics. The goal of the line is to incorporate her Polynesian culture as well as ease, comfort, and versatility. When not designing clothes, Keani spends her time shopping, dancing, traveling, scrap booking, and doing Zumba. After graduation, Keani plans on working her way into the fashion industry.
Cara Christiansen
Hometown: Raleigh, NC

Title: A Black and White Affair
Cara has not been sewing for very long, but for basically her entire life she has been sketching and designing clothes, whether it is on the margin of her class notes or on the corner of a napkin at lunch. Fashion has always been an important part of her life, and she is excited to be perusing a career in that field upon graduation in May. Though it seems much of her time is devoted to school and working on her designs, in her free time she enjoys hanging out with friends, going shopping, watching movies, and cooking. Inspired by the classic color combination of black and white, beautiful, feminine lines, and Chanel’s original “little black dress,” Cara’s line is composed of elegant cocktail dresses that would make any girl feel pretty.
Allison Cross
Hometown: Cary, NC

Title: The Art of Being Lovely
Having been interested in fashion for as long as she can remember, Allison is very excited about designing her senior collection. She knew she wanted to base her collection around Audrey Hepburn because she has always been intrigued by the icon's effortless style. Through incorporating bright colors, fun patterns, influence from the 1950s and 60s, and modern trends, Allison hopes to convey Hepburns elegant spirit. Her collection is intended for fashion-conscious women who value affordable clothing. In addition to design, she enjoys traveling, shopping, and playing tennis. Upon graduation in May, Allison looks forward to beginning an exciting career in the fashion industry.

Title: Avant Facette, in english facet forward
Candace's collection showcases her signature style of bold shapes and silhouettes, with pops of color and bold prints. In five words her designs can be categorized as edgy, glamorous, provocative, bold and unique.
Her futuristic senior collection is composed of sculpted dresses and crisp style lined pieces, using unique materials and embellishments inspired by the facets of a diamond. The collection is a transgression from literal to abstract, experimenting and creating shapes and style lines based on the cut of a diamond.
Farrish has had an interest and admiration of the arts from a young age, with involvement in many forms, from culinary and musical to theatrical and artistic. The Durham born fashion student will be graduating in May 2011 with a Degree in Fashion Textile Management. Her hope, upon graduation, is to work in the fashion industry implementing her skills of design, draping and pattern
Carlee Fowler

I used to sit and watch my grandmother knit, make Christmas dolls, and sew. I was fascinated to see her use scraps of fabric and bring a treasured doll or animal to life. I loved being able to see immediate results, and the transformation of something 2D to a 3D figure. When she passed away I decided I was going to pick up sewing and try to carry on the magic that she had once shared with me. After taking my first class, I realized that the results weren't so immediate, but the excitement of the transformation was. After making my prom dresses all through high school, I found that my passion was in formalwear. My collection is inspired by different animals in their most productive or intriguing form. I wanted to push my limits and take those animalistic features into my garments through the use of digital printing and engineered reconfiguration. However, if you remove the "animal's" main feature you have a cocktail or formalwear garment underneath.
Erin M. Furr
Hometown: Winston-Salem, NC

Title: Resort Glam
Growing up, Erin's father had always assured her that you'll never work a day if you do what you love and after many years of private and AP art classes, Erin was certain that a career in Fashion would treat her to a lifetime of bliss. Her biggest weakness is shopping, both online and in store, but she uses it to her advantage to stay up to date with the latest fashion trends. Erin aspires to be most like her favorite designers including Lilly Pulitzer, Milly, Trina Turk, and Nanette Lepore. These designers, along with her love for the beach, resort lifestyle, and warm weather lead her to create a chic resort collection. One of the fabrics that she designed was based on the Lilly Pulitzer concept of painting a water color and translating it into wearable fabric, with her own fabulous spin on it. She has also included many bright colors, glamorous fabrics and embellishment, as well as classic, timeless silhouettes in order to create her vibrant, must-have line that you wont be able to resist! Some of Erin's favorite pastimes include painting, dancing, skiing, long walks on the beach, visiting the cats at the SPCA, watching Oprah, celebrating everything, bikram yoga, tanning, vacationing, oyster roasts, and laughter.
Rebekah McGee
Hometown: Apex, NC
Email: Rdmcgee_ncsu.edu
Since a young age, Rebekah has always found herself immersed in various interests and in which she could express her creativity. After taking a textile design course her senior year, she decided to follow her passion for the arts and attend college for textile and fashion design. Now a senior in Fashion Development and Product Management, Rebekah has grown to give form to her own ideas and creativity and hopes to apply her skills to a future career in design. Inspired by the beauty of simplicity, Rebekah's senior collection uses the combination of structured pieces and soft silhouettes to create classic garments which reflect her own person style.
Name: Stephanie Mejia
Hometown: Morrisville, NC
Email: smejia_ncsu.edu
Stephanie developed a love of drawing at a young age, which sparked her interest and fixation with fashion illustration and designing. Inspired by the great Alexander McQueen, haute couture, defiance, youth and revolution, her designs combine the future and past in prêt-à-porter sparked by couture elements to evoke drama. Music, art, movements, and history always stimulate the prominent theme of Stephanie's collections. Not being able to separate art and fashion causes her to be influential through what she creates. This particular collection restricts and frees women through multiple silhouettes and strong statement pieces, that can either stand-alone or join collectively to tell a story on stage.
Christy Michal
Hometown: Rocky Mount, NC
Email: cjmichal_ncsu.edu
Background: My whole life I've thrived on a vivid imagination. I am constantly gathering inspiration, spanning all five senses, from my surroundings. One way I have found to recollect these inspirations is through visual expression. I’ve always enjoyed using my hands to create things, but it was my Grandmother Michal who truly inspired me to use a needle and thread as my medium. She always fostered a creative environment for me to explore, and I seek to continue this creative exploration throughout the rest of my life.
Inspiration: For this collection I was inspired by nature, astronomy, mysticism, and tribal cultures. Rather than literally translating these elements into obvious pieces, I attempted to use textures, silhouettes, and handmade accessories that would create a mystical atmosphere that was open to each viewer’s interpretation. As with most creative things in life, I believe that fashion is an open ended thought—it’s open to one’s own interpretation and imagination. I hope this phantasmagoric collection invokes a fantastical place, such as that visited in a dream or fever…
Jiyeon Oh
Hometown: Seoul, Korea; Tokyo, Japan; Charlotte, NC
Email: joh6_ncsu.edu
Title: Cold Apricot
Jiyeon was majoring in biochemistry until her sophomore year when she changed to the fashion and textile management major. She is interested in many different subjects and is full of curiosity so she wants to take on a challenge that she has not experienced before. The theme of her senior collection has been influenced by the traditional costume from three Asian Countries: Korea, Japan, and China. She was inspired the ideas of line by historical play, music and culture. The designs are a collaboration of modern silhouette and style with traditional costume from those countries.
Lily Shabani
Hometown: London, England
Email: Lshaban_ncsu.edu
Title: Hot Color
Lily'’s love and appreciation for fashion has been apparent since even her youngest years growing up, always combining improbable garments to create unique and exciting outfits. This admiration for fashion grew exponentially this past summer during her internship with Diane von Furstenberg. Lily’s designs always incorporate bright colors and clean lines that combine to create fun, yet polished looks. So Lily’s collection, “Hot Color”, is a resortwear line inspired by the saturated colors typically found in tropical locations. She used colorblocking to create strong styles, but added unique touches with hand beading. Lily also designed all of the prints that are used in her line. Hot Color is a line perfect for confident, stylish women that aren’t afraid to play with color and stand out.
Kelly Stillman
Hometown: Sherrills Ford, NC
Email: kellystillman_gmail.com
Title: Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes
Kelly is originally from Delafield, Wisconsin, but has lived in North Carolina most of her life. She currently resides in Cary, NC with her soon-to-be husband, Matt and their two “kids” (cats), Pip and Meeko. Her interests include cooking, traveling, crafting, sewing, fishing, collecting gnomes, and she likes to think of herself as somewhat of a domestic goddess. Upon graduation, she hopes to find a job in either technical design or visual merchandising. She has always enjoyed various sorts of crafting, and her ultimate career aspiration is to open a shop to showcase her passion for crafting, as well as the work of other local crafters and artists. Kelly was ultimately inspired to get into fashion design by her mother, who has been an avid “sewer” all her life.
Her senior collection is inspired by the laid-back, easy, and colorful culture of South Florida. She has always been drawn to South Florida, partly because this is where her parents lived on a sailboat after they were married and partly because this is where her family has vacationed for many years. Kelly's collection will bring you comfortable, easy-to-wear, and cheerful pieces that are perfect for a tropical getaway. Light, breezy fabrics and bright colors are used to evoke sunny moods in anyone who sees or wears these clothes. Just throw them in a suitcase and you're ready to be on your way to a fruity drink with your toes in the sand...

Allison Szatek
Hometown: West Barnstable, MA
Email: akszatek_ncsu.edu
Title: Anai
As a child Allison always found ways to entertain herself and became immersed in a world of excitement and creativity. It was only time before fashion design fell into her lap and it became a passion. After taking fashion classes throughout high school she knew she wanted to go to school to become a fashion designer. This past summer she had a design internship in New York working with the advanced contemporary ready-to-wear collection and designer, Dana-Maxx. She looks forward to continuing on working in the design field with the dream of someday launching her own line. Allison’s collection is inspired by different aspects of Egyptian culture including the bold accessories and classic silhouettes. The looks will be a play on strong structured accessories paired with contemporary garments that incorporate movement through the use of flowing sheers to bring out a contrast between hard and soft.
Shelley Wei
Email: wei.shelley_gmail.com
Title: Sabali
Shelley learned how to sew from her mother, how to tailor from her grandmother, and how to drape and draft patterns from school, past internships, and mentors. Her final collection is a culmination of everything she has learned. The inspiration for this collection comes from an ancient decorative textile woven by Kuba people in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a fabric normally used for ceremonial dress with designs and symbols unique to each wearer. She has updated the ancient textile by using modern day materials creating a wearable collection with subtle shapes that reference traditional Kuba cloth symbols and designs.
Ashley White
Hometown: Wilmington, NC
Email: amwhite2_ncsu.edu
Ever since she was thirteen, Ashley has dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. This dream has already begun to unfold as she embarks on her last semester at NCSU at the College of Textiles. Currently, she is applying for graduate school at Savannah College of Art & Design and desires to start her own Christian clothing line in the future. Ashley is mostly inspired by vintage motifs, feminine silhouettes, and bright hues, which are all evident in her senior collection debuting this spring. Her evening wear and avant-garde inspired line, "Ode To The Virtues", was inspired by one of her favorite scriptures from the book of Proverbs. The verse she took inspiration from states: "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life". From this verse, the concept of guarding one's virtues from the outside turbulence of doubt, stress, troubles, and fear came to mind. Through the art of draping, and the incorporation of chains, keys, and locks, six virtues will be expressed through a garment respectively, with each being "guarded or protected". Since this is a concept that is easier to comprehend when viewed, she hopes that you enjoy figuring out which virtue is which and what each one means to you.
