To celebrate this heritage, I have invited British brewers to produce their own version of Imperial Russian Stout. We will collect the cask beer from William Worthington's Brewery and set off sailing in May 2011 in an a 60 ft sailing clipper from the Thames through the Baltic to arrive in saint Petersburg.
To celebrate the voyage and the fantastic tradition of British brewing that it represent we will hold mini beer festivals on our passage and invite the mayors of all the major stopping points to welcome us to their city and wish us God Speed on our voyage.
The original cask beers will remain unbroached until we reach Saint Petersburg, but we hope our participating brewers will send samples of their stout and other products in their portfolio to show our rich ale heritage.
The ports we will visit are:
The Dial Arch Pub, Woolwich Royal Arsenal with a beer festival arranged by Young's Brewery and Pub company.
Copenhagen with a mini beer festival in Charlies bar.
Stockholm with a mini beer festival in the Oliver Twist.
Helsinki with a beer festival in conjunction with brewery Le Coq .
Saint Petersburg festival and beer judging.
The Great Baltic Adventure team are delighted to announce that boat we will be using for our voyage is the 60ft Thermopylae Clipper. This fantastic vessel has already circumnavigated the world four times in the Clipper Round the World Races so should see us safely to Saint Petersburg. There are still places available aboard her so feel free to get in touch from more details!
