Company History
Flaming Pen Press was established in 2009 by author Scott Appleton to release his first novel. The novel "Swords of the Six" sold over 3,000 copies in one year and Scott sold his book series to a large Christian publishing company.
In 2010 Scott expanded the company to include other authors.
Our Business Model
In the ever-changing world of book publishing, publishers are needed who will publish books in one of two ways:
1) Start-up Career Author
With books that we believe have high-sales potential, where the author will make it their career, we get their book into Ingram distribution to stores nationwide. When saleability is proven the author is free to seek transference of publication to a larger House
2) Part-time Author
When the author of a title we are interested in is unable to promote full-time, their book is published with a focus on online marketing. Sales are made primarily through online retailers such as Amazon.com
This option fits those unable to travel but who love to write, and still deserve to see their work professionally published.
Our Management
Scott Appleton is President and Owner of Flaming Pen Press. He is an accomplished author, fiction editor, and freelance reporter.
He loves to read, especially old history books and fiction (when said fiction is original, unique, and well-conceived).

I am looking for solidly written Fantasy, Science fiction, Mystery, Historical. All history intrigues me, particularly 1800's and previous. I'd like to see a new series written for fans of Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys. Fantasy must be original/unique, and Sci-fi must be imaginative.
Word count (60,000-words or more)
I am not interested in Romance, Autobiography, Self-help, Horror
Works submitted must be free of offensive language and Christian-market-friendly. I judge work based on writing first, content second, and marketability.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure to include an SASE (self addressed stamped envelope) with all correspondence. Failure to do so may result in no response from this publisher.
In accordance with our mission, we will not publish material that stands against traditional Christian values. This includes, but is not limited to: gay/lesbian, works with sexual content (think a PG-rating) we will also turn down manuscripts that use God's name in vain, or contain vulgarity/crude language.
Step 1: Query Letter
Send a short letter to us (include SASE). Include your email and mailing address in the top corner of your letter. Open your Query with a short, grabbing hook and then summarize your book in a couple paragraphs. Tell us a little about yourself, who your target audience is, how you intend to sell the book to them, and any publishing credits you have. Make this letter short, preferably one page. This is your opportunity to sell us on your idea. We will respond within 4 months to query letters.

Step 2: Manuscript Submission (this section is for Requested Material Only)
If we express interest after receiving your Query Letter, we will ask you to send a single-page cover letter, and a marketing strategy, along with your full manuscript to:
Cover letter: hook the editor, summarize your book in a few paragraphs, identify your target audience, and tell us about yourself.
Marketing page: Use as many pages as you need to compile a marketing plan. You want to convince us that you can sell your book if we choose to publish it. Be creative but realistic.
Manuscript formatting guidelines: Use a simple font; such as Times New Roman or Arial. Leave one-inch margin on all sides of the paper. Double-space and print on one side of the paper. We will not accept manuscripts electronically.
Any work submitted will be subjected to review by editors and readers selected by Flaming Pen Press. During this time the suitability of your work will be assessed based on:
•Whether it complies to our guidelines
•The strength of the writing
•Its marketability
Please allow 6 months for the evaluation process. At the end of that time we will contact you with 1) revision request, or 2) offer of contract, or 3) a letter of rejection detailing our reasons.
