New ADV testing on Supra Suede shoes begins. Diego will put these through hell!
A new conceptual idea from Scoff. We are all familar with Canvas shoes and how they offer great boardfeel but come at a price of low life cause of the poor durability of the canvas they are made from. The idea for ADV_CANVAS (short for Advance Canvas) is made to shift the enduance of the fabric more twoards that of Suede or Nubuk. While providing other benifits through it. We are currently testing 2 formulas on the canvas our newly made DDS 4/1 and our SD formula found in our skatelaces. We aren't sure yet if this will be a future product for Scoff.
SCOFF NEWS
Interview with Scoff Owner about the closing of Scoff's retail business
January 10, 2011
Content writer for Skateboard-City Gsosa recently had an interview with Jason aka Scoffman about the desision to close the retail business of Scoff and the begings of Scoff Skateboarding itself. Its a really good interview check it out here on www.skateboard-city.com
Scoff Closes Online Shop and Retail Side of Business
November 29, 2010
Effective January 8, 2011 Scoff Skateboarding will close its doors to the retail world. This is the second time the business has done this (first time in July 2007) since it started in September 2004. Done to preserve the companys life and rebuild itself to come back at a later date. Scoff will no longer be making an effort to solicit to skate shops or productions of Skatelaces and apparel for retail sales alone.
Scoff will be operating solely as a practical technology development company. We will no longer operate under full hours, but within the time allowed by owner Jason Huewe.
Mainly what this all means is we plan on no longer selling retail. This is a hard decision and doesnt come easily to me. This is by no means saying Scoff is going out of business. It will allow us to work more closely with large corporations to try to get an established innovation of areas in the industry.
What brought this decision on? Well believe it or not but this day has been glooming for a whole year! Jason currently works a full-time dead end job and has been for almost 3.5yrs now. To pay bills and support Scoff when needed also supplying the money needed for The Scoff Project.
Now his near fiancé made a deal an ultimatum with him in December 2009. That if Scoff isnt at a point certain point that he would peruse a full time technical school soon after. Everyone needs back up plans if things dont go through and well this was his. This was agreed not by her convincing but Jasons own will as well.
To remained focused Jason will, for the time being close the retail side of Scoff. The main focus will be to keep in contact with companies like Globe and other similar ones to continue furthering Scoff.
I am sorry.
I know a lot of you have grown to be dedicated to the brand of Scoff and have just grown to love what we represent and what we do for skateboarding. I promise that this is for the best, I need to personally secure my future and since Scoff hasnt done it in the time given I will just have to come it another day.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
Thank you for your continued support,
Jason Huewe

Scoffman at Malakyes OB Contest
August 15, 2010
This was Jason Huewe's second time at the Office Boyz skate jam put on by Malakye.com at ASR and presented by CoreAction which filmed the whole event using a new technology. You can view of Scoffman's footage here.
After all the mayhem, power slides, and shiners the random awards were being called out. Last year Jason took the "Tough as Nails" award for taking a beating but this year... He took home for Scoff the "Most Excuses" award, haha I'm sure it had to do with the wookie puppet that was on his back.
Full coverage to be provided by Malakye coming soon.

INTERVIEW with Ruben Najera
by Jason "Scoffman" Huewe
September 2, 2010
What have you been up to lately Ruben?
Well most recently I landed the front cover of Legitimate Skateboard Magazine, I have a 4 page spread in there. Complete with photos and a full on interview. I have been filming for the Struggle video SWORN as well. I am also filming for 4 other videos parts as well.
Oh yeah and also www.ruben-najera.com my official personal website just launched. It has tons of features and all updates on what the heck I have been up too.
Been watching any new tv shows? Do you watch tv at all?
You know what I dont. I don't watch television at all! Its pretty much just all skateboarding, if Im not skateboarding then Im trying to catch up on emails. I guess I never have time for television thats what it is. Even when I'm not skating you can find me taking photos or filming someone skating, Im doing something involving skateboarding pretty much always. The closest thing to watching television for me that I get involved with is playing my PS3 or watching a movie every few months. But thats as far as I go.
Since youve been traveling around more lately have you found new crazy foods you likeor mutated beasts?
Haha mutated beasts? Uumm I dont know about mutated beasts but restaurants shoot. Normally I live on the tour budget! So the funds arent really that gnarly you know, its normally a low budget. Last time I ate at a restraint was at Souplantation which is a buffet style place. Its really good its really really good. Actually remember you and me tried to sneak in last time and we got kicked out?
Oh yea dude haha
We went in to wash our hands and we attempted to try blend in with the crowd. But then the manager kicked us the hell out! The little food I got my hands on made it all worth while though.
Im wondering how have things changed for you since you became Pro for Scoff?
Pretty much the only thing thats changed really is the fact I got a Signature skatelace for Scoff. Thats pretty much the only thing. That and the extra pocket change I get which I am thankful for. Everything helps! Still skating, but I feel like Im pushing myself even harder than I did before and trying to get that video done. I am trying to go above and beyond what Im supposed to. Oh and the Scoff commercial should be out soon!
So you just released you new personal Website, where can we find that?
Oh yea its www.ruben-najera.com it is my official website which just launched. I got some rad features on it that I am stoked on. Especially the new SPOTS section. I will post up directions on any new spots I come across and details for those planning to skateboard there. I always find rad spots or famous spots while we are filming or on tour. I also have my whole skate resume up on my site. I still need to add in a bunch of stuff to it though. Its all a work in progress.
Are there any new tricks or spots youve been working on?
Dude you know what? Theres actually this spot in my hometown that Ive been trying to hit at night but both times Ive gotten kicked out of. Yesterday I went out to skate and I got kicked out of like 4 spots in less than 1 hour, I was so bummed. It was like I was a kick me out magnet you know. Even more ridiculous was the fact that at all 4 spots I was honestly just skating flatground. I wasnt even jumping off anything you know? The last spot I was skating at I actually thought was pretty sick and it has this bump to flat and this manual pad leading up afterwards. Its pretty tight but this guy comes and he kicks me out and yells at me all crazy. Five minutes prior to all this I had just purchased a water from inside his shop. I couldnt believe this guy was kicking out the only customer he had all day. For sure I will never shop there again.
So do you think theyre getting a lot more heavy on skaters for skating? Like stepping it up or was it just a coincidence?
You know its frustrating, because they assume we are all troublemakers. Its a stereotype towards all skateboarders that we are like all criminals or something.
Your Sworn DVD for Struggle is being delayed some cause of not enough footage, is there anything your working on to finish off your part for the video?
Its original dead line is past due but there are reasons for that. There are so many things that have happened from the initial start of the video. Team changes, camera switches, music right problems, you name it. It gets put off a little more and more but at the same time its only getting better. Pretty much we need the final bangers you know? That and some tricks might need to be re filmed but with the HD camera so that things mesh better together.
Whats does skateboarding mean to you?
Skateboarding means the world to me. Without skateboarding I wouldnt be here. Its my reason for living.
Whats your current outlook on the skateboard industry?
There is a lot of good and bad in the industry. The one thing that hits me the hardest is the situation with the skateboarding videos going straight to internet. They are becoming a lost art! Footage that you work hard for shouldnt just be thrown on the internet. Lets keep the hard copy movement alive people! Support the companies making actual videos! Keep it alive!
Yea I know what you mean. Im right there with you.
When I hear that a video is coming out on iTunes Im like Whaaat?! iTunes? Like what the heck, I want the hardcopy. With the special features, bonus footage, and everything. Shit man Ill take a VHS over iTunes any day you know what I mean?
Indeed.
So what has been your most memorable moment with Scoff Skateboarding since you started in 2005.
I want to say it was the Release Party for my signature skatelace. That would be my most memorable day with Scoff. The day of the release party we had freakin hurricane Katrina taking over the parking lot remember? It was raining like crazy and we still had like those fellow skateboard kids skating in the water . I love how they didnt care and it didnt faze them that it was raining. Seeing all the local shredders skate in the rain made my day. You know what I mean? That was the most memorable. Shoutouts to all my fellow skateboarders!
INTERVIEW with Diego Najera
September 1, 2010
Hey Diego so I remember hearing something interesting about you first time I met you in El Centro. Your homies called you sharkbite... Where did that nickname come from?
Oh yea Sharkbite. Uh well it came while I was smaller. You know I have this bad cut on the back of my left leg, right under my knee. Its crazy. Its like this huge massive scar that I got when I was in 3rd grade. I was in my backyard and I was messing around, it was like late at night and I jumped over this little gap of bricks and I kinda slipped. So I slipped and I sliced my knee but I didnt really feel like I got cut. I just saw these two little ones up on my side and then I felt something cold coming down my leg. I got all scared. Once it healed, it took me like half a year. After it healed it then looked like, like a shark bit me. So they just said Sharkbite. Yea that was pretty crazy.
So I heard you got chased by a monkey in a parking garage not too long ago while having a session with some homies? What happened there?
Hahaha that shit was crazy! I was chilling with one of my homies named Chase and then I was skating and then out of nowhere a crazy noise, it sounded like a crazy loud freakin..mad monkey just chasing me, with this crazy noise. I dont know, I was like whats that and then I just saw it come after me and it just got me so freaked out it. Crazy Jason, Jasons crazy.
Yea I hear that man. I heard hes psycho sometimes.
Yea.
So curious now that youve starting school again is there any spots around your school you hit up when no ones around.
Uh well theres actually this school I go to. It comes out in my video in the last section. 5 block, it goes around like a half circle, like a C. Each step is like 2 steps so its the height of a 9 to a 10 stair. Probably the only spot we have there. Its pretty nice stuff cause we get to wax up the fat ledges.
Do you prefer vulcanized or the cupsole shoes?
Hmmm. *long pause*
Vulcanized. Yep, umm I guess cause its like my favorite shoe its called the Thunders from Supra. Supra Footwear, there Jim Grecos pro model shoe and their vulcanized. Pretty nice.
So your pretty stoked on those right now?
Yea they just have like everything. There super nice.
How has things been going for you lately being in all theres contests youve been hitting up? Youve taken 1st on the Es Game of Skate, the first stop. I heard you were in the X-games, youre doing the AM SLAMs and you were just recently in the Crossroads Thrasher contest. Hows everything been going for you since youve been hitting these streaks of contests?
Its been going pretty good. Like mostly with the AM SLAM ones I usually like to go to those ones cause I get to see all my homies from San Diego, come skate with them. It kinda actually gets me out of this hot weather. The one at Crossroads, that one was pretty gnarly. So many people just going at it, that one was one of my hardest ones, so hard to get your turn. So far one of my least favorite one cause it was like.all hesh. I get pushed and everything. The X-Games was extremely fun.
What where you doing there? Where you doing a demo or were you actually entered in one of the street contests?
Well Active put it together, it was like ummm let me see they called it Future Am Series, Contest. They had had different spots in there, there was one in Tustin and me and my brother and couple other people from the Valley headed on over there to check it out.
We had our own little group, I was in my group and it was me Chase, Jordan, and Issac. We qualified for the second round but unfortunately the second round we qualified for we didnt have Chase so it kinda knocked us down some good points good me Issac and Jordan.
Well and since I didnt qualify for that they said that I was flawless, as in out of everybody that competed that day. So I got 1st that qualified me to go to single people, like out of all the stops, the person that had the most would go against singles in the X-Games. So I was pretty happy about that. I get to go to the X-Games you know and skate the course.
Sick dude, so you qualified for street on the X-Games then. How did that go?
I skated it but I was already on my second trick and I decided to try to tre flip the double they had there. Then I went for nollie backside heel and my board snapped on the second trick. I landed it but I had to do the whole rest of my run with a broken board so I was pretty bummed.
Since youve been on tour for the new Struggle SWORN video was there any one spot that really got to you that you wish you could of got a trick off of? Like a spot that you werent able to get a trick you were going for?
Aaah yeah. Definitely. This one 14 stair up in San Diego, let me see what the name is. Its a 14, its really big, not length wise but just really really tall and the impact throws you off really bad. Its at Torey Pines High School famous 14 stair. Tried to nollie baskside flip it, wish I could have got it. I rode away but then I ended up falling super slow, just because the impact was so big. It threw off my balance and then I got all adrenaline rush and now I was like damn I got to get this. I went back up and I tried it again. I snapped my board. It was a really bad fall. Youll be seeing that fall in the SWORN video.
As a young and upcoming skater I wonder whats your outlook on skateboarding?
Well to me its pretty much just having as much fun as you can on that wood you know? Seriously, theres a lot of people that cant do tricks on anything but you see them try which makes you really happy cause you know youre one of them. So like you can just imagin all these people learning new tricks, its always a good feeling learning new tricks. It means so much to me seeing all these kids where I from. Before there was no skating here but now all of a sudden, thanks to my brother Ruben, without him these kids wouldnt really know skating around here thanks to him.
Have you ever thought of when you see yourself turning pro?
Not really. I havent really thought of it. Whenever it happens you know, cause you can never really say when youll be pro. Being pro is a big responsibility.
THE SKATELACE
The Scoff Skatelace is a one of a kind lace that combines high abrasion resistant, non fraying threads, and our Sure Grip Technology. So your lace lasts longer, breaks clean, and you won't notice your lace broke till after your done skating cause your shoe never loosened. The lace keeps a similar appearance between that of a waxed lace and normal lace. Stiffer than most laces its difficult to put in but it stiffens your shoe gives you a more secure fit.
This innovative lace has been developed under the careful eyes of Jason Huewe since 2004 and today is still being improved on to produce the highest quality abrasion, gripping, and fray resistant lace out on the market today. Its birth started back in 2001 when the owner was in his second year of skateboarding developed a lace to meet his skateboarding needs caused by the constant abrasion the griptape on his deck caused while skating.
The Birth of the Skatelace
The Scoff Skatelace has been developed under the careful eyes of Jason Huewe over a period of 5 years and still today is being improved on to produce the highest quality abrasion and fray resistant lace out on the market today. Its birth started back in 2001 when Jason was in his second year of skateboarding, he developed a lace to meet his skateboarding needs at that time. He usually wore down the tips of the laces until they were destroyed and the very first version of the lace was just a reinforced tip.
He did take a small 2yr break from skateboarding during sometime that he was attending high school. One of those days at lunch Jason was talking to his good friend Zach who was an avid skateboarder at the time and Jason asked him. Whats the first thing that wears out when you skate? Zack replied My shoelaces! he laughed and pointed at his laces in multiple broken areas frayed out, and tied back together. At that moment Jason knew what to do and how to resurrect his old super lace idea.
Since that day the skatelaces have gone through multiple changes and metamorphoses, many downfalls, and has been a whole learning experience to be where it is now and is still being worked on to this day.
What is so different about it?
The skatelace starts out like any normal lace.
They are actual shoelaces imported from China to the Scoff warehouse and then go through our own in house process to treat them. The last 6-8 inches of the laces from the tips are left untreated, this design was created to help you maneuver the lace through the shoe and make lacing easier. The Skatelace can be up to 3 times more abrasion resistant depending on which of our formulas you choose. They are guaranteed not to fray in reinforced areas and when finished the lace is stiffer than normal. This allows it to grip the majority of the lace holes in your shoes keeping them tight when untied and even after the lace breaks. This we call our Sure Grip Technology. They are the only lace to combine the 3 aspects of abrasion resistant, non-fraying abilities, and sure grip technology into the single lace.
Main Features
Sure Grip Technology (SGT): The lace grips your shoe immediately when you start lacing it up. It uses pressure points to hold it in place. So when the lace is folded over to go to the next eyelet that pressure on the eyelet simply pins the lace in place. This allows your shoe to be snug when untied and even stay tight after the lace has been broken. Usually this also means a better fitting shoe that wont loosen up on you and a lace you will never have to constantly re-adjust. We believe this to be the strongest feature in the skatelace.
Abrasion Resistant Properties: The material incorporated into the lace fortifies each thread making them stronger and depending on the process we use leaves a thin film over the lace for additional protect. In most cases the lace will last about up to 3 times longer. Even some has lasted up to 6 times longer for some skaters who dont break their laces as often or defect "tank" laces that got too much of the material.
Anti-Fraying Abilities: The skatelace is actually guaranteed not to fray out. This is due to each individual thread being fused to the next turning the lace into on singular complex string instead of a lace made from hundreds of threads. This allows it to break clean and just wear away instead of looking like something you stepped on in the park and just fraying away. The skateace breaks clean.
Sub Features
Waterproof: All treated areas of the lace is waterproof.
Reinforced Core: Only found with the DAP. In oval laces it helps the polyester core remain intact through the whole abuse of skating instead of fraying out. In flat laces it allows for a deeper and more complete penetration into the lace center.
Abuse and Comparison Tests / Research and Development
We always like to back up all words with proof. We dont say it unless we know its true and feel 100% confident about it. Thats why we do multiple simulated tests on our laces to test for a number of things. After they pass our in controlled tests we send them out to our team riders for the real tests.
Currently we have began a big R&D project doing indepth abuse tests and logging each results in with over 7 different formulas and 3 different amounts of the material on the lace using the new DAP technology. Here are a few of the abuse tests we have created and put into a images for everyone too see. Click any of the images below for a blown up image of the test.
Only half of lace, both ends cut, 20lbs dumbell.
The image explains its self.
Skatelace Technology
We have multiple technologies that we are now incorporating into our laces and each have a unique effect with each lace. We decided to stamp the packaging of each lace with a logo for that technology so you can better identify them. Below you will find a list of the logos and the technology and effects behind each one.
H.C.F. Hard Coat Formula
This formula developed back in 06 creates a hard outer barrier to the lace ensuring that it attracts less than its last formula before it. This made the lace stiffer allowing it to grip the eyelets of the shoe better keeping the shoe tight when untied or even after the lace broke. It also bonds all the threads together keeping the lace from fraying out and ensuring a clean break. In most cases the HCF ensures at least twice the endurance against abrasion compared to normal laces and even more in some cases.
Guaranteed not to Fray Out // Abrasion Resistant // Sure Grip Technology
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D.A.P. Diamond Application Process
Our most recent advancement to progress and push the boundaries of endurance and performance in a shoelace is DAP. We use a completely new process and new formulas that can be customized to the laces need. The lace has a slight sheen appearance. The formula can actually go into the depth of the lace and reinforce the core. This process also gives the lace a more natural texture to it and tends to be less stiff and more maneuverable as well depending on the formula.
Slight Sheen Apperance // More Natural Texture // Less Stiff. More Maneuverable // Reinforced Core
The Standard Formula
If your looking for a great overall lace our standard formula will do the job, hands down. Great for the average lace rippers of today, holding up to the everyday flicks, bails, and escapes from the po-po theyll stay tight.
Abrasion Resistant // Sure Grip Technology // Non - Fraying
The PRO Formula
Created for the lace ripping gods of today. This formula has been put against Pros and Ams across the industry and at DC and Globe and have proven their worth.
High Abrasion Resistant // Reinforced Core // Sure Grip Technology // Non - Fraying
G.G.T. Gorilla Grip Technology
In its early R&D, this new technology will hopefully allow us to give the same gripping and holding power as our past formulas but without making the skatelace stiffer and therefore much easier to lace up.
Extra Gripping Power // Less Stiff
D.D.S. Dirt Denial System
Currently in R&D this new system provides an added layer of protection to the lace repelling dirt and dust that comes its way. Inspired by medical nurses looking for a clean lace that wont attract lint and wont allow blood or other hazardous materials to seep into the lace while still allowing for easy cleaning and removal of contaminates.
Dirt, Dust, and Lint Repellent // Easy to Clean
What is the Easiest way to lace up my Skatelaces?
For a unique lace you need a new way to think about lacing your shoes. One thing about the lace which make them difficult is cause of the SGT. Good thing about it once your laces are in place you wont have to worry about them again. So once there in youre done with having to mess with them.
First off I know most people when they lace their shoes you pull directly up on the lace to pull it through the hole. You do not want to do this with the skatelace because it will activate the Sure Grip Technology and make it a lot tougher.
Instead you want to get the lace in the first holes and level the lace out. Then stick your foot in the shoe during the rest of the lacing process. (You want to do this to make sure its a perfect fit for your foot 1st time. Now if you can imagine, pull the lace directly outwards, horizontally to the hole. So the lace comes out sideways instead of vertical(up).
Then combine that with a quick pull of the lace and its in place. Lacing will be a breeze if you combine those two. Pull the lace sideways away from the shoe instead of up and do it in a fast motion. Make sure not to have your fingers next to the lace while pulling it fast(it might burn you cause of the quick friction you produce.)
Colors / Styles / Sizing
e have our Standard Colors which are black and white and we carry all year around in our Wide and Thin laces. We also have the LIMITED Skatelace colors which we only release 1-2 colors every season and only 24 pairs of that certain unique colorway is released not to be made again.
Scoff uses three styles of shoelaces in their line up.
Sizing: The laces come in 3 different sizes 45 inches, 48 inches, and 54 inches.
--45-48 inch lace will fit a shoe with up to 6 eyelets with about 6-7 inches of lace at the end to tie off.
--54 inch lace will fit a shoe with up to 9 eyelets with about 6-7 inches of free lace at the end.
This all depends also on how tight you tie your shoes and what lace design you do. Scoff is also currently working on a new style lace that will leave 14 inches of free untreated area at the tip of each lace.
