HOMEHomeAll About MeMy name is Shayla Cox and I am the physical education teacher for WMR1 Elementary. I graduated from Centralia High School in 2006 and went on to get my physical education degree at Hannibal-LaGrange College (now a university). In high school I played softball, basketball and pole vaulted in track. In college I played varsity softball. I love sports and love to hang out with friends and family. My family and I are pretty close and they are very important to me!My parents live in Centralia, Missouri. I have a younger sister, Shauna, who is married and lives in Colorado. She is 20 years old and has just given me the most amazing little nephew, Traecen. Then there is my younger brother, Stuart, who is a senior at Centralia High School. Studnets need to realize how important it is for them to be physically active. There are three main things that help keep you healthy that we cover in elementary physcial education. First, EXERCISE! For children this could mean going outside and playing for an hour after they get home instead of watching television. This also helps the students be creative and use their imaginations. Second, EATING HEALTHY! We went over portion sizes and eating in moderation in class. When students come home and get a snack, make sure they eat somthing healthy for them, not 7 cookies :) Last but DEFINITELY not least...SLEEP! As bad as students think it is to have a bed time, it is actually extremely important and healthy for them. Students learn all day long and then play/homework all evening. Their brains need a break just like our physical bodies need a break!
