Congratulations on making it to your final year. This moment is so bitter sweet for many of us. As you enter this year I hope you all will join SCC in preparing you for life after college and making the most out of your last year in college. We will try to make this year a memorable one for you all so you can look back as an alumni and remember the amazing times you have had here. This is the year to finish your college bucket list, embrace the wild side, and finish strong! You have all made it this far already, so don't give up, have fun, and remember nobody will know what their professor said at 3:00 pm some Tuesday afternoon; they'll remember the late night study groups, their first day on campus, Thursday nights out, and commencement. Thank you all for sharing your last year with myself and the rest of the council. Best of luck to you all.
Sincerely,
Katie Pedroza
President, Senior Class Council
Our mission is to provide exciting events and unexpected opportunities that create a memorable experience for the graduating class. Seniors will learn about the transition from undergraduate to alumnus, social awareness, transitioning into a career and important information regarding commencement and graduation. They will also be invited to special events in honor of their last year. We accomplish our mission through our newsletter, relationships with various organizations on campus, the Graduation Pledge Alliance, social events and selecting the senior gift and commencement speaker.
The University of Colorado Senior Class Council was first established in 2001 by Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs Ron Stump, President of the Alumni Association Kent Zimmerman, CU Foundation Employee and Former Tri-Executive Tara Friedman, and students Erik Estrada and Sarah Schupp. They all shared the same thought, to somehow unify the Senior Class through social, educational, and service oriented projects and programs that would build tradition, pride, and community within the Senior Class. In the Fall of 2001 the first official Senior Class Council was formed by a group of 10 students. Their purpose was to create a lasting legacy and build the Senior Class identity through various events. Since then the role of the Senior Class Council has evolved. We now partner with other groups on campus such as The Herd and Alumni Association to create events for seniors. Now 10 years after the council was first established we hope to continue in the development of the senior identity at the University of Colorado.

"Commencement does not mean, as many wrongly think, the breaking of ties and the beginning of life apart. Rather, it marks your initiation in the fullest sense into the fellowship of the university, as bearers of her torch, as centers of her influence, as promoters of her spirit."
President George Norlin

For the fifth year, the Graduation Pledge is coming to the University of Colorado! The pledge serves as a commitment to social and environmental responsibility upon commencement and entrance into life beyond college. Now implemented at hundreds of colleges and universities around the nation in various forms, the Graduation Pledge is a wonderful way to express your continued devotion to being a conscientious, engaged citizen after you leave CU. The Pledge will be included in the Commencement program and graduates who sign the pledge will display their commitment by wearing a green cord on Graduation Day. As you prepare to enter your last year at CU-Boulder, now is the perfect time to become more involved in your University. The Senior Class Council (SCC) is looking for members of the rising senior class to serve on the 2012 Board. The Council selects a keynote commencement speaker, runs Senior Gift Giving Committee with colleges and schools at CU, and organizes various social events for seniors. Leadership opportunities (including being the sole student speaker at the Folsom Field Commencement ceremony!) are available within the group as well as a chance to work with top university administrators and leaders. Joining this group is an amazing way to make your voice heard on campus and to have an impact on many aspects of student life.
If you are interested in joining this extraordinary group of students please send your resume to SCC_Colorado.edu by February 9 to be included in the first round of applications.
Please review the positions below and the responsiblities they require. You will be asked about your preference of position during your interview.

After approval from the Chancellor, the chairs will contact the selected candidates to invite the individual to speak. This is a fabulous opportunity to meet some extraordinary people and impact graduation in a profound way.
In addition, they run the graduation pledge campaign, now in its 4th year. The Graduation Pledge is an international pledge that graduates can opt to sign, pledging to make socially and environmentally conscious decisions in their lives after graduation. The 2007 SCC adopted the graduation pledge at CU and it is continuing to grow. The chair is responsible for fostering that growth through promotion of the pledge and making signup efficient and accessible. Signers wear a green cord over their gowns at graduation.
Senior Class Gift Chairs (2): The senior class gift chairs select the options for the senior class gift, with input from the Council and the class. Working closely with administrators and by soliciting input from the seniors, the chairs will choose the final gift. The budget for the gift is generally in excess of $50,000 and the gift has a lasting positive impact on the campus community. This person is also in charge the Senior Gift Committee and coordinating the annual Forever Buffs 5K Run.
Public Relations and Communications Chairs (2): The most important representation of the Council to the class, this chair works closely with each section of the Council to develop a plan to promote the event or issue to the class and help to develop the reputation of the Council. As a growing organization, it is vital that this individual be passionate about public relations, communication with students, and event promotion. These people will also be responsible for the design, production, and sale of the official senior class t-shirt.
Also of great importance, these people are in charge of the Senior Class Technology. This includes maintenance of the SCC Website, the Office Computer, and the Monthly Senior Class Newsletter: The Buff Times.
