Governor's Winter Games
In 1996, in order to promote East River South Dakota tourism and the new East River Snowmobile trails, Governor Janklow and the Poinsett Pounders created the Governor's Winter Games. Hosted on Lake Poinsett, the games were a resounding success for promoting safe family fun. Moved to Black's Pheasant Fields in 2004, on the east side of Lake Poinsett, the Poinsett Pounders have made the annual event (the third weekend in January) a weekend to remember.

Find the Pounders Find the Pounders
The Poinsett Pounders began with many goals, but, most of all, to have fun and be safe while riding snowmobile with their friends. To the right is a Google Map that will help you find the home of the Pounders at Black's Pheasant Fields. During the Winter Games, you can find many Pounders all around Lake Poinsett on sleds or stopping at local businesses.
Over the years, you have seen the Poinsett Pounders riding with their friends and family, teaching Snowmobile Safety Courses, marking many miles of trail for the safety of all snowmobilers, hosting SDSA events such as the SDSA Annual Convention, starting an event to raise money for the fight against Breast Cancer called "Ride for the Ribbon" and many other charitable donations and hours spent giving back to the greater South Dakota community. Even in the summer months, the Pounders host a Glow Ball Golf Tourney as a Fundraiser for Lake Region Golf Course and their own Membership Drive Golf Tourney.
Ride for the Ribbon Over $43,000.00 was raised at the Poinsett Pounders Third Annual Ride for the Ribbon in Badger, SD on February 5th, 2011. The day started with registration in Badger Hall and over 70 snowmobilers left Badger in many groups. The riders went around Lake Poinsett, Lake Albert, Arlington, Lake Preston and through the trails back to Badger. After returning, all the riders were greeted to dinner.
The evening began with a live auction, the conclusion of the silent auction, and recognition of the riders who earned gold, silver, or bronze rider status. Diane Hiles of the Town and Country Snowmobile Club was the top collector with $2350 raised this year. Bonnie Moeller of the Poinsett Pounders collected $1795 and Marietta Lakness also of the Poinsett Pounders earned gold rider status with $1022 collected. The following people raised over $500 each: Jennifer Loomis, Dani Reitsma & family, Damm Family, Jacob & Dixie Smith, Dug & Wendy Weelborg Family, and Anna & Matt Smith. People raising more then $250 were Laube Family Farms, Renkly Farms and Eric Erstad. Many others, club members and non-members alike, donated auction items and time to make the day a successful event. The auction was a huge success with numerous items donated. The John Green original painting raffle was drawn after the live auction and won by Jerry Squashingroff of Estelline and the big ticket snowmobile raffle was won by Trent Damm of Badger.
Diane Hiles, breast cancer survivor thanked everyone for their hard work and support. She also reminded everyone, men and women alike, of the importance of self-exams and mammography as early detection is a crucial key to winning the battle over breast cancer. Another key to winning that battle is the tremendous support of family and friends which includes so many of you here and events like the Ride for the Ribbon. This event since it began has been an awesome undertaking and one that each of you here tonight need to be very proud of. Thank you doesn't say enough. The Poinsett Pounders will send net proceeds to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure where seventy-five percent of the proceeds stay in South Dakota toward education and twenty-five percent goes to national research projects. Thank you to everyone that helped to raise the funds with the Poinsett Pounders!
