"But I'll tell you what hermits realize. If you go off into a far, far forest and get very quiet, you'll come to understand that you're connected with everything." Alan Watts
About Me
I am currently beginning my PhD studies at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Forestry, under the supervision of Dr. Neera Singh. My research interest is focused on urban forest governance and citizen participation. Forests are beautiful to me and invoke a sense of tranquility and awe at the same time. Each season is special with multitudes of perfect little scenes that reveal magnificence in their just being: rain in the canopy, flowers poking through the litter, leaves glowing and glistening as they fall and dark green ferns contrasting with bright white snow. They are wonderful places for discovering tiny bugs and colourful mushrooms.

An urban forest is all of the trees and other vegetation in and around a town, village or city. Traditionally it has referred to tree-lined streets, but an urban forest also includes trees in home landscapes, school yards, parks, riverbanks, cemeteries, vacant lots, utility rights-of-way, adjacent woodlands and anywhere else trees can grow in and around a community of any size. Shrubs, flowers, vines, ground covers, grass, and a variety of wild plants and animals also are part of the urban forest. Streets, sidewalks, buildings, utilities, soil, topography and, most importantly, people are an integral part of the urban forest. The urban forest is, in fact, an ecosystem.(Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, http://dnr.wi.gov/forestry/uf/program/)
