Page 1 CCMA UPDATE 16 AUGUST 2011:The meeting was reconvened at CCMA on 16 August 2011. The last time we left the commissioner made a proposal that both parties (Telkom and Labour) had to get a mandate to.On convening the meeting it became obvious that the company have no intention to make any significant changes to their initial proposal. Labour on the other hand had balloted their members on the commissioners proposal and the indication was if they (Telkom) are in line with the proposal labour will have to accept based on various unions mandate’s.The company put the following final offer for labour to consider citing that they are aware ogf the financial state of the organization.They want a two year agreementThe offer for year one a 5% guaranteed increase from 1 April to 30 Sept 2011, and additional 1% increase from 1 October 2011 to 31 March 2012.The non-guarantee team award to be increase from 16% to 18%,The Medical they prepare to discuss the disparities’ in a company forum,The M6/S6 salary dispensation to be discussed in a company forum,Salary Disparities’ to be addressed with the DRM process,Job security to be referred to the Restructuring forum.Labour tried to negotiate but the company indicated that they have limits in which they can move. Labour brought to the attention of the company via the commissioner that they are not portraying they are in financial difficulties with the appointments as well as promotions happening at the top.Labour will be issued with their certificate of non-resolution by Thursday 18 August 2011. As labour we will plot the way foward on the action to follow.

If your fund offers you member investment choice, you need to ensure that you obtain suitable advice to make these important financial decisions.Member Choice allows a member in a retirement fund to select from a range of investment options appropriate to your circum-stances, and to switch when your situation changes. All companies should provide individuals with a choice of funds from which you can choose to determine where your funds are to be invested. Oasis offers funds that may be included as a part of your fund’s platform and meet your ethical and investment needs. HOW DOES MEMBER CHOICE BENEFIT ME?Previously members had no choice as to where or how their funds were invested. The employer would invest the funds according to their own policies. With investment choice, the members of a fund can choose where they want their money invested, which means that each member now has the benefit of optimising their retirement savings according to their own particular needs and requirements. This choice should also include investing according to religious and ethical beliefs. So if your contributions are being invested in a way that defies the principles and teachings of your faith, you are entitled to do something about it through member choice.
