BACKGROUND:
As a child, I spent many hours following the black line of a swimming pool under the guidance of the Greater Columbus Swim Team of Ohio (GCSTO). I then swam for Ithaca College and became a 5 x NCAA All-American. After college, I retired from the pool but quickly became bored. In 2000 I moved to Los Angeles, CA and read an article in Competitor Magazine about the LA Triathlon. I decided to sign up for the race even though I didn't know how to ride a bike and had never swam in the ocean. I bought a yellow Cannondale and a pair of tri shorts. I managed a 6th place in my age-group and never looked back....
