Graphic Design
I work from my home based studio on the Southern Highlands of New South Wales just south of Sydney. I was employed as a graphic designer and commercial artist for more than twenty years and now work in this field on a freelance basis. My formal qualifications include a Graphic Design Certificate from Randwick TAFE and a Bachelor of Creative Arts (distinction) from Wollongong University, where I attained a double major in graphic design and creative arts.
I believe that the first principle of good design is to create a work that is both aesthetically pleasing and easily interpreted by the audience. I aim to create designs of beauty which provide a solution to the challenge of presenting complex information in an easily interpreted form.
Artwork and Illustration
Along with my graphics experience I have always harboured a love of the arts and studied extensively in the field of fine and creative arts, including drawing, illustration, painting and printmaking. I have an interest in creating artists' books and spent a semester at Indiana University in the US studying book structures and lithographic printmaking. My formal qualifications include a Fine Arts Diploma from Illawarra TAFE and a Bachelor of Creative Arts, as mentioned previously.
My artworks are often inspired by nature; the pattern, colours and diversity in even the smallest part of the natural world. I am predominantly a representational artist, but abstract design can be found in even the most realistic of images.
