When you come to see Dr Schaefer you can expect a personalized and expert care plan tailored to your unique needs.
For your first appointment, we ask you to arrange for us to have your medical records from your other treating physicians. It is important that we have information on the history of your condition, prior treatments, and tests you have had performed. Please bring your insurance information.
The initial consultation allows you ample time with Dr. Schaefer to discuss your pain; its initial onset; the degree, severity and frequency and the various treatments you may have already tried. Then, Dr. Schaefer will create a plan that fits your condition. This might include specialized injection therapy using fluoroscopy, physical therapy, exercise and/or medication. Your treatment will be fully explained to you and your questions answered prior to commencing with any course of action.
If you are scheduled for a procedure in the hospital, we ask that you do not eat or drink anything 8 hours prior to the procedure and arrange for a driver to take you home. If you are a diabetic, be sure to discuss your eating and medication schedule with your physician.
You may need to stop taking certain medications a week before your procedure, like aspirin. Remind your doctor of all prescription and over-the-counter medications you take, including herbal and vitamin supplements. Dr. Schaefer will tell you if and when you need to discontinue any of your medications.
Inform Dr. Schaefer if you develop a cold, fever, or flu symptoms before your scheduled procedure appointment.
If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please contact us at 261-1121 at least 24 hours in advance. We are here to make your pain a thing of the past.
