Author
I have been a reader of genre fiction since a very early age, and somewhere along the line, decided to try my hand at writing it. I completed a few novels and sent them out to publishers. One manuscript actually made it to the send the rest of it to us category, but was finally rejected as not being literary enough for our publishing house. After a few more tries, submitting re-written manuscripts, work and family took over and the old tales were filed away in boxes.
My work career at the time involved a considerable amount of non-fiction writing: regular articles for an in-house magazine, plus newspapers. I also was involved in writing position papers to government for a national professional organization.
During this period I remained active in writing circles, belonging to the Canadian Authors Association, attending a few National Conferences (working on one conference committee), and being a member a local writer's workshop, which I eventually chaired. Have also remained part of one CAA committee for several years.
Since retiring from the business life, and with a wee bit more free time, I have plunged back into writing on more of a full time basis. In 2005 our local workshop, the Winnipeg Freelancers self-published a collection of our short stories and poems entitled Pieces of Eight. (We had eight members at the time). In that anthology I have one not-very-serious Sci Fi tale After the Hop, one non-fiction about how I almost drowned my brother Lost...Gull Harbour, and an attempt at an epic-style fantasy poem History's Rumours. In 2006 I won first place in the Canadian Authors National Convention short story contest for a ghost story Midnight which was published in the CAA Anthology CanWrite! 2006.
Currently (2009) I have a vampire tale coming out in a new anthology being launched in March 2010 titled Evolve and am working on a number of short stories and full-length manuscripts, all of which would fall into the fantasy, sci fi, or horror genres. I also volunteer as a genre book reviewer for an on-line magazine aimed at libraries.
Hobbies include a large family, sailing a 26' MacGregor, and travel. Like cars, movies, and walking. Have an annoying, demanding cat and a usually understanding wife.
