The Shed Youth Ministries is the youth group of Heartland Baptist Church in Ames, IA. We claim to be the best youth group on earth. Our teen department is dedicated to connecting teens with God, each other and serving the community. We have one heartbeat, one mind and one focus to be all about and all for JESUS.We have our own building behind the church to keep things as lively as we want (thus, the shed). We meet twice a week and enjoy multiple activities every month. We seek to have fun as well as learn something about God's Word. Every time we get together be prepared to be challenged to live for Christ and learn how to be closer to God

Feeding the Homless Minisrtry
Saturday, February 25th We are going to be taking a meal for 120 people to Hope Ministries in Des Moines and serve it to homeless men and women in the Des Moines area. Many volunteers will be needed. See Matt for details.
Classes
Jr. High One of the strengths of our church is it's Jr. high ministry. The teens come prepared every Sunday to have fun and explore their faith in an active and friendly environment. Many teens come away from Sunday school changed and challenged to live for God and give Him the best of their lives.
Sr. HighThe Sr. high class is a close group of teenagers that are very welcoming to visitors. We meet in the Shed and engage in meaningful discussions about God, the church, and the difficulties of being a teenager in today's world. The Sr. highers have a desire to move beyond the status quo and it shows.
Wednesday Night Youth GroupEvery Wednesday night the Jr. highers and Sr. highers meet together for prayer and Bible study led by Pastor Matt. The teens focus on learning God's Word and sharing with each other what God is doing in their lives. Worship is highlighted and the lessons are arranged in a fun and exciting way to keep things relevent as well as spiritual.
Teachers
Matt Read, Student PastorMatt Read has been an Ames resident for most of his life. After a dramatic conversion he surrendered to the ministry at the age of 21. Matt met his sweetheart Jill and was married in 2004. They have two young children, Jacob and Katelyn. Matt is a graduate of Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny andrecieved a Masters degree from Liberty Baptist Seminary in Virginia. Matt loves the student ministry, from teens through young adults and wants to help them develop in their walk with the Lord.
Donnie and Jennifer FinchDon and Jennifer work with our Sr. High Ministry. They are two of the friendliest people you will ever meet and they are so much fun to be around! Teenagers absolutely love them! Don teaches Sr. High Sunday school and Jennifer teaches the girls small groups on Wednesday nights. When they aren't busy with one of their 8 KIDS (no we're not kidding!), they are going to conferences and concerts, teaching Bible studies, or trying to make their way to Chicago for a Cubs game. Your Sr. Highers will quickly get to know both Don and Jennifer as fun loving people that genuinely care for their spiritual well-being.
Joe and Shanda RingJoe and Shanda teach the Jr. High Sunday school class at Heartland. They have been involved in teaching ministries for four years. They are parents of two Jr highers themselves, as well as a freshman in college. They really have a heart for teens. Shanda is a nurse in Ames and Joe climbs large poles and plays with electrical power lines. When not teaching teens Joe serves as a deacon in our church.
