Minstrelsongs
I have been writing songs for more years than I care to remember and Postcards Of Life is an internet umbrella for me, my children and the occasional other musician or backing singer.
From my song, 'Here's To You Sweet Lovely England', you can probably tell England is home. This was first recorded by the Liverpool Spinners in the early eighties.
By chance I came across an old print of the artwork from the 1920's Jones/Kahn song, I'll See You In My Dreams in an antique shop. I had never heard of it but it soon worked itself into my imagination and before long a new song was born. It took less than an hour to write.
My studio is based around a Tascam multitrack and a Fostex mastering recorder in the living room. My instruments are a 1969 Gibson blue ridge accoustic, an accoustic Ovation 12 string, mandolin, Gibson SG, Hawaiian electric slide guitar, Irish pipe, and a Roland FantomX keyboard plus various other percussion instruments. I publish my own music which saves a lot of hassle, through Mistrel and minstrelsongs.
This site is in its early days. Thanks for looking in and I hope you enjoy.

Here's To You Sweet England
Here's to you sweet lovely England, the land where I was born
Where the grass is green and the oak is tall
With fields full of barley corn
Where I life is simple if you choose, where oft times you may hear
Any Englishman with pride and joy
Speak of this land so dear.
Above your rolling hills the skylark fills
The summer skies with song
Where I can speak with words so free, and give of my goodwill
And if ever I am far away
My dreams you will always fill.
Yes if ever I am far away, in some foreign land I've been
My thoughts wait only for the day I'll return to England green.
Here's to you sweet lovely England, you'll always be home to me
From your cliff-lined shores to Nothumbria's moors
From the Fens to the West country
There are many here among us now, with their hearts I hear them sing
We're just proud to toil upon English soil
With the flag of St George flying.
Instrumental verse
And if ever I am far away in some foreign land I've been
Verse 1 followed by line 1.
Extra lyrics
Here's to you sweet lovely England, surrounded by the sea
Hear the dog fox bark, in the night so dark
See the stars shining down on me
Where I can take my true love's hand, or hold her to my breast
Whisper words of love soft and low
Tell her she's the girl I love the best.
But now the times fall hard upon this land my father's knew
Though troubled winds blow around your shores I'll never forsake you.
