W elcome to my personal portfolio. This site has been designed to share my interests, current and upcomming work, college projects, and professional and contact information.
I was born in St. Augustine, Florida to Greg and Catherine Recker. My father, an engineer who graduated from West Point, works in the field of military simulation systems. Growing up in this environment my interest was drawn towards overall ergonomically designed systems for military purposes.
While in high school I participated in a dual enrollment program at Daytona State College as well as advance placement courses. I graduated with Cum Laude from Flagler Palm Coast High School in May of 2011 having completed 57 credits towards my associate’s degree at Daytona State College.
I transferred in the fall of 2011 into Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. As of December 2011 I hold junior standing with a major in Human Factors Psychology.
The Human Factors program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers students a degree that covers Psychology, Systems Engineering, Life Science, Ergonomics, and Computer Interface Design. This allows students to enter any field related to optimizing the performance, safety, and user satisfaction of the systems that humans interact with.
Specifically I hope to use my degree in Human Factors Psychology to assist the Department of Defense in military related systems design.
Simulation training has always been the area that I wish to find employment in. I find fascination in upgrading conventional training methods so that they include the most current technological developments to help soldiers that will be working in extreme environments increase their information retention during training and advanced their real-life combat situation performance.
My motivation to create and design such products is that I hope to help save American soldiers and assist them in completing their jobs safely and easily. I wish that one day I am able to develop a product that can partially return the favors that they do for us on a daily basis.
I am actively involved in Embry-Riddle's Sign Language Association, a student member of the Human Factors and Ergonomic Society, and the University Diversity Student Board.
In my first semester at Embry-Riddle I made it my priority to get as much immediate experience as possible. I am currently a research assistance for a graduate student's thesis project on Social Facilitation and Test Anxiety in Flight Simulation Training. This has provided me with the foundation I need to participate in future research of my own.
In my Human Factors degree program I have been challenged to completed projects involving finding a design problem, analyzing it, and providing a redesign according to human factors design principles. I have also created anlaytical reports on simulation systems as well as a technical communications video on the 2012 Presidential Race.
Who am I? To that I don’t have a perfect answer. People may define themselves by their talents: I am a dancer. Others can be defined by personality traits: I am kind, intelligent, and underestimated. And still others will be categorized by religion, race, or political affiliation: I am a believer in God, a German/Russian/American, and a Republican.
Talents, personality, and affiliation can define me, but they do not comprise ME.
I am just me. I am a daughter of a soldier, a sister to both a teenage rock star and a 11-year-old genius, forever a baby girl to a single mother, and truly one in a million.
My name is Amanda Recker.
