About me
"Life is like a puzzle waiting to be solved. And trust me; I've lost a few pieces."
Hello! I'm Rhonda Bell, amateur photographer and founder of McClish Photography Studios. I was born and raised in Nashville, TN. I like the south. Most people are friendly, and I like that. I've thought of living in other places like Hawaii, but the south will always have my heart.
I love theatre. I'm a stage manager. I prefer being behind the scenes rather than in the limelight as an actor. My favorite genre is absurdism. Samuel Beckett and Eugene Ionesco are amazing. I basically love anything that is intellectually stimulating because I am always up for a challenge.
I speak French. I started my foreign language studies when I was in 7th grade and continued for 6 1/2 years into my freshman year of college. I dream of traveling to France one day and studying there, particularly in the southern French riviera region in the city of Nice.
As a young adult, I am constantly looking for new hobbies, and towards the end of my high school career, I fell in love with photography. It's something I think about everyday, and now it's a passion. I do anything from portraits to landscape, and I am looking to expand my repertoire and techniques throughout my photographical journey.
Other things I enjoy:
- Music: Life without music is a terrible life to live. I like just about anything except for hip-hop/rap and country. I prefer pop and alternative rock, but I also love international music. My two favorite bands/artists are BENNIE K (Japan) and Celtic Woman (Ireland).
-Friends: My friends are everything and I am one of the most loyal people you will ever meet. I enjoy meeting new people and making new friends. I like being able to have stimulating conversations, and those come best when everyone has a wide array of interests.
-Arts n' crafts: Obviously, there is some sort of artsy culture in my life, and arts n' crafts are the main thing. I love coloring and my dream job is working for Crayola naming crayon colors. I like to paint, cut, paste, decorate, use glitter, and just have a great time using my imagination to create a true work of art.
-Children's Media: I love watching children's television stations like PBS and Qubo. I grew up watching Sesame Street and Nickelodeon. I love reliving my childhood and even though I'm nearly 20 now, I still watch shows meant for 5 year olds. I also enjoy children's theatre and reading books for kids. I want to use media to educate children.
-Summer: I love this season the most and not just because it means no school. I like the way summer invades the senses. I love the smell of freshly cut grass and the smell of rain. I love falling alseep to the sound of thunder storms. I love listening to little kids laughing as they play outside. I love warm, sun-kissed skin. I just love summer.
I guess that's it really. If you want to know more, just contact me and I'll answer. :]
Education
"So people think I'm mixed just because I'm an intellectual. I just tell them that I'm sorry they think that because I honestly am 100% black...I just happen to value education."
I attended Hillsboro High School where I graduated in May of 2009. Represent! I am proud to be a Hillsboro Burro. I was a member of the National Honor Society, the International Thespian Society, and French club. I graduated with honors as a distinguished scholar in the top 20 of my class. I took AP courses my freshman and sophomore years. Junior year, I began the very prestigious International Baccalaureate program, a two year program known internationally as a good prep for university level academia. I completed the program my senior year and was awarded the highly acclaimed IB dimploma in July 2009.
I currently attend Berea College in Berea, KY. I am entering my second year. I have not declared a major and am undecided, but I am working on a proposal for an independent major that fuses child/family studies and theatre together to make a children's theatre/media major in which I can learn to use media to educate children.
I plan on graduating with my Bachelors in May 2013 and hope to attend graduate school to earn my Masters.
Awards
"Slow and steady wins the race."
I can't say I've ever won any kind of award for my photography. But that's ok because I'm not really looking to win any award. I just like taking pictures because that's all that really matters. Maybe one day, as I continue to grow as a photographer, winning some kind of an award would be amazing and worth all of the years of hard work, but until then, I must admit that I am quite content with just taking pictures for fun. It gives me something to do, it keeps me out of trouble, and it's a great way to express myself, and honestly, that's the greatest most rewarding feeling I could ever ask for. Art is about expression, and that's what I love to do. Good photos and happy viewers are an award all on their own.
