Rachel von Hindman
Vocalist, Performer, Teacher
Biography
Ive always known that I wanted to be a singer. In fact, my grandparents like to tell the story of me at age 3, wandering around to different restaurant tables, offering to sing for strangers. My goal is to balance performance and teaching, as I have a great love for them both. I am lucky to have a very versatile voice, having sung and taught others to sing everything from opera to punk.
My professional experience has been focused on classical singing, although I am currently singing cabaret music with a guitarist, singing opera combined with burlesque dancing, and lead singer in a rock band. Most recently, I appeared at the Boheme Sauvage in Berlin with Operalesque, in an opera burlesque performance. Before that, I sang for a year with the Berlin International Opera in the roles of Lady Macbeth, the Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni.
Other appearances include Zerbine in Die Magd als Herrin at the Maskenzauber in Hamburg, die Königin der Nacht (die Zauberflöte) and Nella (Gianni Schicchi) with A Singing Actors Studio in Binghamton, NY, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors and Gertrude in Hänsel und Gretel with the Tri-Cities Opera, Gianetta in The Gondoliers with the Binghamton Summer Savoyards and Madame Goldentrill in The Impresario at Jacksonville University, Brahms' Ein Deutches Requiem with the Binghamton University Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the Fauré Requiem with the West Chester University Chamber Ensemble and Chorale. I received my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Florida State University and my Masters of Music in Opera at Binghamton University.

Teaching
Rachel has been teaching voice for over 15 years. Her focus is on a free, natural singing style, releasing tensions and finding each singer's true voice. She has trained singers in almost every style of music imaginable, from opera to punk.
Rachel believes that all singing has to come from a healthy, naturally produced voice. This voice is always supported through breath and body awareness. From there, a singer can choose to add nuances and elements of different styles. Rachel herself sings not only classical music, but also rock, jazz, pop and musical theater.
One of Rachel's greatest strengths as a teacher is her ability to physically sympathise with a singer, to feel what he or she is feeling, in order to diagnose and repair vocal problems. In addition to that, she is enthusiastic, patient and dynamic, managing to get the best that every student has to offer, whether a beginner or a professional.
Rachel has many students who have gone on to undergraduate and graduate programs and professional careers. Her studio is located in the Schöneberg district of Berlin, Germany
