This small Study is by Graham Sutherland (1903 1980), one of the neo-romantic painters who dominated British art during the Second World War and its aftermath.
Graham Sutherlands work is present in many important private collections and museums, including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Tate Britain, the Fine Art Museums in San Francisco and many others.
After a period of neglect around the 1960s when his influence began to wane, there is now widespread consensus that Sutherland is one of the most exciting and compelling artists of the Modern British school. Auctions for this Artist show strong market interest,. Modern British painting is one of the strongest performers in the art market at present, and works by Sutherland and his contemporaries are particularly sought after.
